Stargate Cocktail Restore!!!!

What a great paint job! I've now been shamed into redoing the one I applied. I used a gloss enamel from a rattle can, how did you get that satin finish?

Also, any tips for routing the laminate? I'm daunted at getting the holes just right, and the lock opening on one side is tapered, so a bit with a shallow bearing would have to be used.

Looks amazing, thanks for setting the bar so high, it's inspiring. =)

The satin finished was done with krylon satin black spray paint, just apply light coats and take your time, i put 4 coats on waiting about 5-10 mins in between each coat. The real magic is in the primer I used. I sprayed it twice with high build automotive primer from a real spray gun and sanded it smooth with 600 grit.

As far as the laminate I went the other way and used vinyl due to it being easier for me to work with.

Very cool. I'm gonna sand this baby down to bare wood and start again. Just dropped off my old kickplates to have re-created. With that cost in mind, the paint better be right too!

Also, did you have to replace the smoked plexi? Mine is completely warped.

I havnt started working on the top yet, so Im not sure what route im going to go

Havnt done much more with this, I have been extremely busy with work and have not had anytime to put it back together, Im hoping to fully finish it by winter and take it to its future home at Star Worlds Arcade in Dekalb, IL

Quick question; have you found 1" or wider melamine edge banding anywhere? It seems that is what goes around the lid from pictures I've seen. I just finished paint and edge taping my restore, but that was 7/8 tape.

It's available, but I have never bought it. This looks like a start, same brand that sells the usual stuff at Lowe's. May can contact the site and get the info on ordering.

edit - took another look.. that stuff is considered 'commercial' and they want you to set up a commercial account, supply a tax ID #, etc.. surely a cabinet shop can order it, but might take some calling around and research to find someone with an account.

After extensive googling, I found a place that sells 1 1/4 in in 250ft rolls... Minimum 3 rolls! I think I'll be using leftover woodgrain laminate to cover those curves. :)
