I just recently picked up a Williams Stargate cocktail machine. Everything seems to be working except it doesn't flip the screen to 2 player cocktail mode. I've read somewhere where it saids to cut the jumper at the widget board.

I'm not sure which one is the widget board. Also, is the cut wire a stand alone wire?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please be as specific as possible since I'm not that familiar with this.

Nice pictures would definately help )

Thanks

There is a jumper on the I/O board (the small board) that is labeled W1. It may not be labelled on all boards. You need to either de solder this jumper or just clip it.

It is the one that is brown with 1 stripe aound the middle.

I just want to say thanks for this. This helped me figure it out!!

I'm bumping this up as I have the same issue. I do have a resistor where it is expected to be in upright mode. I'm guessing it's because the resistor is bad (is it the white with a single brown line?) so I'll check it first, but does anyone have any other thoughts as what to also look at?

That's a 0 ohm jumper. It's shaped like a resistor so that it can be stuffed just like any other through hole axial component. Unless it's open (infinite resistance) it's good. (Well ok, it's not supposed to be 1k either it's supposed to be a "short")

The white with single brown line is jumper W1 that you need to cut

Do not touch the resistor beside it (turquoise background with yellow-purple-red stripes)
Wait, I thought I read that removing it puts it into cocktail mode and having it puts it in upright mode. Am I misreading this: https://www.robotron-2084.co.uk/techwilliamshardwareid.html
  • You CANNOT use ANY Defender Board in another Williams (or other) game!
  • You CANNOT use an early series CPU or Interface in a tabletop game as it lacks the circuits to flip the screen.
  • You MUST use red-label game ROMs in a tabletop game.
  • You MUST remove jumper W1 in a later series interface when using in a tabletop game.
  • You MUST remove jumper W2 in a later series interface when using WITHOUT red-label ROMs.

So would a wire be sufficient as a jumper? I'd like to avoid ordering parts if it turns out to be bad
