My Stargate board that I fried the RAM and replaced the RAM and it works has an unusual bootup bug. On bootup it says "All Systems Go" and then the next screen goes "Adjustment Failure" - High Scores Table and Book keeping Reset [see pic]. - It keeps doing this on every bootup. And on the settings page it locks up [see pic]. It didn't do this before I fried the RAMS on it.

My other bad Stargate Rev A board does the same thing...

Anyone know what the problem is with these boards?

Yeah, I'll have Yellowdog repair them...

Bookkeeping/Hi-Score Tables Cleared is usually due to dead batteries on the CPU. Pull and check them with a DMM, should be at least 1.35v.

The battery holders themselves become crappy as well.
So meter the voltage from one end of the pack to the other and see if it adds up correctly. (1.5 x 3)

The batteries are good; I measured each one and they were 1.277 V to 1.285 V.

Bad batteries shouldn't mess up the setup screen.

But does the voltage of the combined batteries go all the way through the holder ?

You're right, but one step at a time.

That could be a ribbon cable or ROM that just needs re-seated.

Borrowed from our good friend Mr Bob Roberts...

Ok, my Stargate Rev B board seems to work fine now! I checked the voltage to the ROM board and it was 5.25V at the plug - a little too high when the Williams manuals says the boards should get 4.8v to 5.2v. So I lowered the +5V supply of my switcher so that the ROM board gets + 5.18V - and now after numerous On / Off bootups it doesn't have that bookkeep error page and it seems to keep the high score table! Boots fine now!

So it wasn't the batteries!

Now all I have to do is check my other Rev A board for the same effect...

your bookkeeping error is due to the fact that you have a switcher in use. This has been beaten to death, brought back and beaten to death again and again.

Switchers in williams games cause bookkeeping errors. It is due to the immediate shutdown of a switcher not allowing the cmos to set the high scores and settings before power is gone.

Install an original linear power supply and you will no longer have this problem.

I can't install an original PS because the original PS wiring and plugs are gone, so I wouldn't know how to make the PS back to OEM. So I'm stuck with a switcher.

My Rev A board is still bad and deserves another thread. But I'll have Yellowdog fix it...

If only there was some guy that made Williams Wiring Harness' out there.

Show me a pic of your wiring for the power brick and the switcher.

Ok, here's a pic of my PS -

What's that stray 1 red wire plug do?

I think I wanna keep the switcher tho...

I have seen a lot worse, and that is easily restorable.

The stray that you speak of is all that is left of the connector for the coin door lights. It does nothing with a switcher installed, except take up dead air space.

I'm doing this from my phone, so I could be wrong about the picture, but it looks like it might be the memory protect switch wire that is supposed to be attached to the 4 pin header on the top of the CPU board. If it is the mem. protect wire it will go to an interlock switch up by the coin door.ken

Ken, I can see the memory protect is hooked up to the cpu as it should be. The wire in question is the one that should have a yellow wire, white, red & black for the coin door lights. 6 position connector.

Ok, I admit now my batteries are low when they measure around 1.27 Volts. New batteries measure 1.55 Volts. So I'm gonna buy Energizer Advanced Lithium batteries for my 3 Stargate boards.

I plan to break a million on Stargate as I never did that in the 80's. Just got 457,400 now and the action gets so fast on the upper levels with baiters and phreds coming sooner in the waves to kill you.
