When I turn on my Stargate I am getting the following message:

High Score table reset Adjustment failure

Restore factory settings by raising table top and turning game off and on

Anyone have any idea whats going on? Turning the game off and on doesnt help.

Most likely the battery has died.

Try replacing that first.

If that does not work try reseating all connections and your RAM chips.

Battery holder is shot and will have to be replaced. When I push the advance button on the coin door the game goes into attract mode and will accept credits but it will not start a game.

Make sure you replace the old battery holder with a lithium holder. Bob Roberts sells them, also on Ebay and other sources...

Ok I will get the kit from Bob Roberts and replace the battery. I understand the memory reset issue with no batteries but shouldnt the game play without the batteries?

Yeah that's what I was wondering. Battery is an issue, but only part of the story. If it was just the battery, you should be able to play still. I think...

Depends on a game. I worked on a Sorcerer a few years back that wouldn't exit diagnostics. I metered each AA battery, and found that one had no reading.

The rivet between the lead and the battery holder had failed. I burnished up a pop rivet, bent out the battery holder tabs, popped the rivet into the lead ring lug, checked continuity, and re-installed the battery.

The pin then came out of self-test, and worked for the first time for the customer in years.

Then again, I was working on a more modern Williams Diner. The batteries were shot, and when the game would get power glitch, I'd have to re-run the setup routine. This one had a missing head key, but I finally found a way in here (thanks!) by taking out the screws that held the head lock in place, and replacing the batteries. Now it works fine.

Yes the game should work. You need to press one of the advance buttons on the test switch and then the game will start up. You don't need the batteries to play the game.

Bravo robotron John. My stargate does it occasionally as well. If you changed some setting you will have to change them again. Just press advance and all will be well.
