Stargate #2 w/Switcher & Wires?'s Pictures Included...

I picked up Stargate#2 last night and I have some questions about getting it up and running today.

The harness hack job looks pretty respectable and someone took a lot of time to document the connectors.

I am now installing a working board set, working monitor & complete control panel.

I was wondering if there is anything / testing wise that I can do to make sure this cab does not fry my good parts? Or is this one of those deals that I half to roll the dice on and just throw the switch? If it fries anything on me it would be one very expensive lesson that I would love to avoid.

Thanks for any of your help in advance!

Over all not bad, but beware of this...

Yep I see the bare wire showing Dave Ty. We are going to do something about that before we fire it up.

Ok here are a few more shots with the boards in place.

I have a question based on your test rig picture, repro harness, dog shit harness and the scat.

It looks to me that the coin door molex has been change out from the factory one (it's smaller). Do the top two red wires go to the top pins on the rom board.

@

2J3 Plug
PAO Pin Red Wire?
PA1 Pin Red Wire?

Or would it slide over the bottom pins. The molex is smaller than the one provided with the new repro harness so I could place it a pin or two off if it needs to go to the bottom of 2J3. I am not talking about revesing the plug? I know this is stupid question and I am pretty sure the molex should be flush with PA0 but then again It sure is alot of money to go up in smoke.

The machine coined up and we pressed 1 player nothing.
Ok drop another quarter and press for a 2 player game... nothing. :(

So buttons are not working at least the p1 and p2 so far.

So is this a widget board problem?

Thanks again for your help because I am pretty stoked! I haven't played Sg in a lot of years...

Oh I took a close up of the widget board because I want to make sure its correct.

I have had in intermittent connection at the widget do that. Board was good.

No nothing pressed manual/automatic button which brings up the menus. The joystick does not work or thrust / fire to advance thru.

Okay here is my question. Does defender widget boards have two pins missing or do they have all the pins?

Which one is which?

Defender widget is missing 2 pins, 1 on 2J2 and 1 on 2J3.

Advance is controlled on the ROM board, and game controls are on the widget. Suspect is wiring.

Check for ground faults on the control panel. When all switches are dead, that is the most common issue. The easist way to test for this is to find the ground side on one of the switches and run a jumper from it to the ground strap (the braided cable that runs through the box).

I have a total of 5 widget boards in front of me. Then one more bolted to the machine is missing pins.

3 others in front of me are missing the same pins of which two are marked defender.

Now I still have two left that no pins are missing. Are these the correct ones for stargate?

I think this is where the problem is. I have a defender widget board bolted up instead of a stargate???

Is this a possibility?

The ground normally comes from the power supply 4J3 @ pin 6, but could definitely be missing since there is a switcher installed. Good call Ken.

You have a Defender widget installed. The ones with all of the pins are for Stargate.

Ty guys brb...... lets switch that bad boy out!

Ok first real game of Sg in 15 years or so? I almost cleared wave 5 the dog fight! Took drj's high score with no cpo and nasty glue under my hands I was rocking it old school.

That widget board was the problem it was a defender board! :D She fired right up after I put one with all the pins in...

She still making a few strange noises that I don't remember but it will all work out.
