Starcade Episodes

Mostly related question for TheBasement:

Your episodes are 320 x 240, good old VHS resolution? Did G4 broadcast them that way? Seems every low def channel is in 480i, at least on DirectTV. I pulled several of the episodes off of the Starcade website via DownloadHelper year or so ago, and they are 320x240, but the quality is so bad when played on a newer TV that I just can't watch them.

Are you sure they came from G4, and if so have the shows been down sampled? Are they watchable when burned to DVD?

Not only did I love the game show and the video games, but had a pretty big crush on Geoff Edwards! Thanks you made my day!

Sorry for dragging this old thread up, but does anyone offer a complete collection of these episodes?

Bit torrent has none for d/l currently..

+1...would love to see the PP2 special episode again. Only saw it once on G4 several years ago...when G4 played video game related programming...and was on the air...

Most likely, G4 took the camera masters which were on 1 inch tape and transferred them to digibeta. I have talked with James Caruso, the creator of the series and offered to do the transfer but he's very protective (naturally) over his creation. The episodes should be preserved first, and then he could decide whether he wants to distribute them to the home video market.

I would imagine he's been approached by several people to help archive the library. It's really just up to him on what he wants to do with everything. Realistically, the footage could be upconverted to HD and archived both on tape and on hard drive.

The more people that write him and ask for the entire library, the better chances that we might see it released some day. Keep in mind that some of the master tapes were destroyed in the Northridge earthquake in the early 90s so those episodes may never be available unless copied from less desirable sources.

I found my CDs, and I FTPed them to a member here who was going to offer a torrent. He never did so.
I have no interest in burning them multiple times over but I would happily offer them to someone who WOULD do so.

Same here, no interest in Cd's.

but starting and creating a torrent? I just have a cable connection so my up speed would be a crawl I'd imagine.

I'd like to share these episodes with my daughter one day, show her why these games were important back in the day.

How large is the total collection, file size wise?

i don't know, but looking at the contestant page, the highest episode number is episode #133, so figuring that each episode is about 22 min long, times the 133 episodes, gives you roughly 49 hours of video. so, unless the qualilty was complete crap, that'd be quite a few dvds...

I'd be happy to help seed a torrent with others till everyone gets a copy. I dont have huge up bandwidth like most people (cable).

Mike

well thats 3 of us willing to seed.. send it to one of us and lets get it going.

How many GB we talking about?

Maybe I'll throw them up on usenet. You can use a newsreader to grab them.
I'll dig them back out and let you know how many there are.

edit: found a prior PM where I told someone the numbers of shows per DVD and their total size:
Disc 1: 32 files 4.21Gb
Disc 2: 34 files 4.25Gb
Disc 3: 24 files 2.98Gb
Disc 4: 21 files 2.67Gb

well I didn't read every post in this thread, but if someone burns these onto a dvd I would be interested as well.
