What's the best method to remove these SOBs? The only thing I could dig up on the search engine was the easy out screw extractor. Wouldn't the center post cause a problem?
Small screw driver and a hammer. Bend the security pole enough to allow an allen wrench in there otherwise call/run down to Radioshack. I bought a bit kit that had the one needed to remove those.
Definitely get the security bits. You don't want to break anything trying to defeat them when you can just buy the right tool (and have it forever). Sears sells a set with the more common bits for $25 or so, and you can probably walk in and get it tonight. The Harbor Freight set looks more complete, but unless you have one nearby, you'll have to wait for it to ship.
Thanks guys. I was under the impression that Atari used some kind of proprietary security bolt. I'll go and pick up a set of security bits. Never hurts to own more tools!
The Atari yoke security bits are not Torx, they are hex. (At least that's what they were on all the ones I have seen.) It looks like the Harbor Freight set has security hex in there..
