My SW UR yoke grips are beat up. Chunks missing, either that or the paint/coating was really thick and chipped off. Either way, I was thinking of using epoxy to build it back up, sand it down (ugh, sanding epoxy SUCKS) and re-coating them with something industrial-type tough. An epoxy-based paint or similar.

Anyone do this before? Good/bad results? What did you do or use for materials?

Ahh.. well, yeah, I guess I'd build it back up and fill it in with epoxy, but .. I'd think you'd want to strip it to bare metal first. Then, fill, sand, etc.. then primer, wet sand, primer, get it slick, then refinish.

Tell you what, to bring some good karma back to this board...I have 1/2 of a star wars handle. I believe it is the left side outer. I know it is not perfect, but if you want it, it is yours. Post a pic of your outer handles, and I will do the same with mine once I dig it out (may not be until this weekend)

I'm a fan of karma, and I'll take you up on that offer. I'll go snap a few pix and post them in a bit.

I sell NOS pieces on my site.

Hey Mylstar,
Question: Since you carry the NOS grips, I wanted to inquire as to their coating appearance and feel.
I am about to powdercoat my grips and the entire yoke assembly. But before I do; while I was sandblasting the old material off, the grips themselves appeared to be coated with something almost like rubber. It just felt different. I'm confident the rest of the yoke assembly originally was paint as it came off quite easily. But it took me a very long time and several hits to get that coating off the grips.
Can you tell me if originally they had a rubbery feel to them, almost like a Poly (Rubberized) Plastisol Coating?
Maybe it's just the years of people's hand oils? But if that were the case, wouldn't it just wear the surface? Would really like to find out the original coating of the grips.
