Star Wars WG K6100 issue

Looks like a bad potmeter to me, but you don't have an Amplifone.

Check all the solderings of the connectors on the deflection board. Also the tracks running from those connectors. They tend to crack.

Issue looks to be in horizontal deflection circuit.

What are the chances this will fix the problem?

Chances are slim to none.
Have you verified the +5 to the PCB?
Have you checked the B+ on the monitor?
Either a bad pot like Level42 mentioned or it could be the starting of your AVG chip going bad.

it's not waste to install the kit by any means - it just won't be fixing your problem.

Any chance of viewing the PCB output on a scope to rule out the game board set?

Oh ya, great idea! I have access to a couple of scopes, but no idea how to connect them. I poked around with google real quick and didn't find anything useful. May need Dokert or Shilmover's help on this one. :)

Troy,

Decided to take a look (you just left my place :) ). check the AR Board. make sure the outputs are correct. I have seen similar issues with +5v being off.

If your scope does not work, LMK and we can test it here.

Star Wars has been up and running for a little over an hour now with no issues. Something between rebuilding the A/R-II, reflowing all of the connector pins & flyback, replacing the tube & starter in the marquee light fixture ;) and replacing the 5,000 components that come in the kits seems to have fixed the problem.

Never got the scope hooked up because it's an automotive one with a single connection coming out to several probes and I wasn't sure which ones to connect to the x & y outputs on the PCB. Thanks again for taking the time to show me to do this with the proper scope Barry! Next time It comes up I'll head to your place again and we can check it out.

It's great to have Star Wars back up and running properly in the arcade. Thanks again for everyone's input!

Had similar problems with my star wars. It would start out like that but get better after the game warmed up for 10 minutes or so. It slowly got worse over time. Swapped deflection boards to confirm that wasn't the problem. Bought the AVG replacement fix from arcadeshop.com and haven't had a problem since. If your problems recur you might look into that.

I was going to say it looks like mine, but I'm using an Amp.. I really need to get in there and fix it.

Good to know it was bad connectors.

Troy,

Glad you got it going. Happy to help.
