Star Wars WG 6100 - display problem - bottom of display warped

Ok the display has mostly new caps in it. I didn't replace the two 7400 uF caps because I couldn't find them locally. Would that cause this? Or is it likely something else? I was hoping to fix this today so the guy can take it with him when he heads out of town tomorrow.

This crude drawing is what the base of the trench looks like normally on top and what mine looks like on the bottom.

If I move the display up about an inch and a half it straightens out and looks good but then I can't see the top of the screen and I end up with a big gap on the bottom. If I move it back down then everything curves out like shown.

Do I need to step up my looking for those two 7400 caps? Or is it likely a transistor issue? Or something else?

Ok, perhaps some pics and video are in order since nobody has chimed in yet:

Here's the crosshatch pattern in test mode. It looks pretty ok I think:

But when I'm playing, the bottom gets squished up some and has lines that curve that should be straight. Also, when I get shot a long white line goes across the bottom as shown here:

It's easier to see in this video. Watch what happens when text scrolls up through the bottom. It starts out squished and then grows to normal height. Also, text at the bottom is often kind of garbled. Near the end of the first part, watch how the legs "grow" onto the capital 'A' letters as they move up the screen:
