Star Wars Trilogy Standup Questions

Also, did the stand up have force feedback? Is it a setting you turn on and off perhaps. The one I just got doesn't have it?

Thanks,

its been a few years since i sold mine but i beleive that the stand up did have it.... never turned it on or off so i cant help with that ...sorry

Both the Stand Up AND the Sit Down have the Force Feedback. It is enabled/disabled in the service menu. You can also change the up/down/left/right directions if you want. If I were you, I wouldn't use the force feedback. I got used to not using it and when I went back to it, it made the game WAAAAAY more difficult. Just my opinion. Also, check for loose connections at the PCB or the stick because any time a game resets is not good.

Ok, found a manual on line at Sega Amusement's site. Cool! Anyway, I needed to use the Test button, goto Assignments and change the machine from U/R to DX then the force feedback enable/disable option appeard. I then went to input test, force feedback and it said error or something. So I am guessing someone along the way disabled it permanently. So no biggy.

if you want a manual let me know.. i still have my brand new unopened trilogy with the 3 tools in the plastic...

I also have a regular upright...didn't see a force feedback option in menu...I would check the stick to make sure it is not causing a ground when pulled back to far...The thing I can't figure out is how to reset the high scores on this game?

The stand up did not have force feedback. In fact, only the deluxe sitdown had it. The converted Ocean Hunter sitdowns did not have it either. The option will appear in the menu for all cabs because they all used the same boardsets. You will get an error message if you turn it on because the force feedback hardware is not present.

The reason for this is the hardware for SWT is HUGE. It has two of the large mtors Sega uses in the sitdown racers. There is simply not enough room in the CP to fit all that stuff in.

Strange, because there is a stand up at my local pizzeria and it most definitely has it. It was quite noticeable after playing my sit-down for a year with no force feedback.

weird .. but the uprights did come with the opition for the sit down chair... when they had the chair the sub woofer didnt come in the cab right... i have a few subs here from people adding a chair... i could swear mine had the feedback.... wish it was here to check for ya...

After checking the manuals for the two, It seems that the upright did have some form of feedback. Apparently, it uses a different mech than the deluxe sitdown used (the massive two motor setup). The Ocean Hunter conversions did not have any feedback. If there are any upright owners willing to photograph their ff mechanisms, it would be helpful.

Edit: You can view the manuals for all three versions here.

After reading this I figured I'd check my upright to see if it had the force feedback module and maybe it was turned off because I had no vibration effects. I went thru the setting menu and it does give the option to set it between upright and deluxe. When set to deluxe the feedback lever option does come up and was set to enabled but during the menu test it states the feedback lever is not connected. So I opened the control panel and removed the joystick assembly. There is no mechanism attached to it that would cause it to shake the joystick. There is no empty harness going to the control panel or even inside the cab itself. I did notice tho that when the game was set to deluxe with the force feedback enabled and the game was rebooted the only effect it had was reversing the left/right motion of the stick. The menu settings will only give the option to reverse up/down as seen in most flight simulators. So this wouldn't affect side to side motion.

After looking thru the manuals for both the upright and the deluxe versions the upright manual shows no force feedback mechanism. The deluxe (sitdown) version does show the mechanism. In fact, I don't think the upright control panel box would even have the physical room to hold another piece of hardware to shake the stick. The manual for the deluxe states how the force feedback lever can even move the stick automatically for testing purposes.

I believe Sega shared some of the same pages for both manuals because even the actual upright manual tells you to select DLX (deluxe) "for this machine". If this were the case then why even have the option to select upright if you can just disable the force feedback lever from the settings for the deluxe game assignment.

The upright manual, unless I missed something, shows no part drawing or # for a force feedback mechanism attached to the joystick assembly.

I dont have the game , never did...

but it would seem to me, when you pull the stick all the way back adn it resets the game... that you maybe have a bare wire grounding out somewhere..

Look for a pinched wire somewhere around the stick when you pull it all the way back...

Maybe just a little bit of wire insulation wore thru and its grounding out.. setting the game board into a reset board...

Just my thought...

That was my thought after comparing the manuals, but without an actual cab to look at, I figured it best to defer to those with the game. When zenomorp said he played one with feedback, I thought Sega might have used a smaller mech, similar to the feedback mechanism used on Bass Fishing, to get feedback. However, I did know there was no way the upright used the mech the sitdown deluxe uses.

I appreciate you clarifying this.
