Ended up buying a SWT machine over the weekend and perhaps someone that has worked on one before can offer up a suggestion to get the dang cannon magna diverter assembly working correctly.

What I am running into is, when the magnet engages to pick up the ball, the cannons recoil that moves it onto the other part of the ramp doesn't function. It seems to pull back only half way and then releases the ball. The function wasn't working properly when I bought it, so I took it all apart and cleaned out the coil and the moving parts. When you test it with out a ball being held by the magnet it works just fine. What I am wondering is: Should I consider a stronger coil to give it that extra bit of pull? Do the rails that the cannon runs along with the brass bushings itself need to be lubricated? If so would 4 in 1 Oil be the correct choice?

This isn't my first machine, but its the first time that I have owned one with a moving magnet driven system in it and the manual isn't very helpful on the subject. Also is the plastic x wing piece still available any ware? Mine is missing a laser cannon.

Thanks folks!

Sorry I cant' offer any insight in to the problem, but can I ask what you paid for it? I'm looking at one that's for sale right now.

i can't offer any repair suggestions either, but i will say that i really like that pin......it gets a bad rap but it's not deserved, IMO.

have you ever met a pin you didnt like:)

When you're new to pinball, EVERY game is awesome! :) To be fair though - there's nothing wrong w/ liking games that the general collector community doesn't give a shit about. If you like it, great...and if no one else does - then it's cheaper! Win-win! If you do a search on RGP, it seems like everyone HATES Goldeneye....I'm so glad I took a chance on a cheap one, cuz I think it's super sweet!!! I even had an Austin Powers for a while, which I thought was pretty fun....another game people hate.

not really fond of twilight zone either.....but to be fair, i haven't played very many games on it (less than 10-12).

i thought the elvis pin sucked too.

see? i can be a hater. :)

Come play MY Elvis....you'll change your mind. :)

i would like to play one that was shopped out and 100% working. the one that i played had some issues.....i know, it's not totally fair to judge a pin in that condition.

not real big on the theme though....elvis is ok, but i'm sort of in the take it or leave it camp with his music.

Doing a little research I found out that the x wing is actually just a Micro-machines action figure from the middle 90s (already have one on the way bought on ebay) and the turret coil should be replaced with a 28-700 and that should solve the problems.

The guy I bought it from was going to sell it to me for $2250 and he claimed it was in perfect condition. I am sure we have all been there. I pointed out the flaws and talked him down to $1500 Other than the turret issue, the broken laser turret on the figure, and it needing new rubbers, its an absolutely fantastic machine. I love the way it plays even if it is stupidly difficult at times. I probably will end up fixing it and either selling it or trading it for something else. That tends to be the fate of most of my machines.

that's a cool piece of trivia. you should add it to the "details" section of the game summary over at pinside:

and i'd say you got a pretty good deal on it at $1500. nice pick up.
