I have noticed that my SWT has been freezing up in attract and also in gameplay. I haven't done any troubleshooting, but I know that the game was ran for a few years, at least, without the fan that is supposed to disperse heat away from the boardset. I replaced the non working fan when I got it. There is no HD in this game, so I was wondering if the heat could have stressed a rom or ram. Anyone know if this is a common issue with these boardsets?

Thanks,

I can tell you they are very sensitive to the +3.3v as well as +5 so id check that.

If you have a good meter you can hook it up fire up the game, set it to min/max record and after it locks up you can see the real time, minimum, and max voltage... if min and max arent close there ya go. might be worth your time to check for ac ripple too.

The power supplies used in those are known for causing headaches.

Could also be a boardset issue as well but i would rule out the power supply first.

Thanks. I'll start there. My meter does not record stuff, so I'll have to test real time. Would a PC PS be ok to sub in to test?

You can try it, but I find that most PC power supplies just aren't stable enough for touchy arcade boards.

Where do I check the voltage from on this thing? I see no test points that are obvious. I did disassemble and reassemble the PS and it was filthy in there. Nothing was burned component wise, though. Thanks.

on the side there the connectors go in it should show a pinout as to which pin is what..

if you cant find it i think i have a "hard to get going then ok hot" power supply from a harley davidson/la riders deluxe that i know has the pinout on it, can take a picture for ya.(pretty sure its the same/simular)

some folks have used pc supplies as replacements. they use a high end/high amperage unit and then take the connectors form the original ps and solder the wires from the new ps to the oiginal connectorts, then its plug and play. THe trick is to get a ps that also has 100vac as an acceptable input as all of these have a 100vac transformer inside..

you can use one rated for 120vac but youll have to do some wiring to get that 120vac directly off of the power switch and through a new fuse.

Thanks again. I am going to go check the voltage in a bit. After I cleaned the PS out, I played a full game, then let it sit in attract for a while. It did not freeze. The previous 2 times I booted the game, it froze in a matter of minutes. Guess all that gunk could have been heating up the PS possibly.
