Looks like theres been a slew of threads about SWT recently, guess I'll add mine to the pile. Im having trouble getting the joystick to calibrate. No matter how I do it, how I offset it to make it right, I cant get it to work properly. The joystick appears to be in fine condition, it just simply will not center up. Im trying to avoid buying the two hundred dollar replacement, but I may be out of options. Anyone had similar trouble? Its the standard upright version.

Joystick

Hey - I'm in the process of overhauling mine right now (replacing bulbs, springs, etc) and did the calibration the other night. One thing first... Did you check the HAPP controls site? If so, I believe the joystick there is about $85 unless I'm mistaken, so at least consider that.

I've got the sit-down deluxe, so I'm not 100% if this applies, but... I went into the menus, went to calibration, and I had to do 2 things... Set the joystick to center, and then press the button. Then it asked me to push it as far left, right, up, and down as it would go, and it recorded the peak coordinates. That seemed to do the trick.

What behavior are you seeing? If you don't do it right, it will only show centered, far left, or far right.

Yeah, Ive got a menu on mine as well, and I'm fairly sure I'm doing the calibration right, but I still cant get the joystick centered. When I bought it, the joystick used to always lean to the left, I dont know why, but I adjusted the big coil spring to where it appears to set centered, but nothing seems to work, its always off a little on one side..

Replacement

Mine still isn't perfect, and I haven't messed with the springs yet. I noticed when I got it that it wasn't reaching the edges of the screen at all. I calibrated it a few times and got horrible results (didn't do it right) but once I got it, it's better. My joystick however can be pushed right, let go of, and it stays. So I have a little looking to replace some parts, but with the calibration, I can hold it in the middle, and the target DOES stay in the middle of the screen fine, so it's fairly accurate.

I was going to have you take a pic of the screen that comes up when you pick calibration (the one that shows the max x/y coordinates), however I'm not sure if it will map because you have the stand-up and I have the 50" TV. We can try though.

Another thing you could do is jot down the numbers you get when you calibrate. For instance... What x/y coordinate is it recording when it asks you to center the stick? And then when you move left/right/up/down as far as it will go, what are all of those coordinates? Might give us a clue.

Another issue is, it doesnt save the calibration, I have to re-do it everytime I power the machine down and back up. As for the other stuff, I'll look into it, and get the info back to ya

Memory

Hmmm... You have to recalibrate each time? Have you seen if the game is storing the high scores you set or other items too? I'll have to do a little bit of reading, as I'm not sure where each of the things associated with the game is stored. I'm guessing that if you changed the game's difficulty to hard or something (I'm not sure what the default is) and then power down and back up that it might not save that either. Unless I'm nuts and the calibration and each item is stored separately.

Probably others on the forum that would know off the top of their head if they want to chime in, but I'll see if I can find any info on how the storage is done and how that's powered when shut down. Good idea to find out anything you might need now, and then get all the parts together (and therefore, shipping once).

I found a good Sega distributor in the Chicago area (right down the road fromo Sega in Illinois) with somewhat reasonable prices. Especially on the small stuff. Gonna be getting some smaller parts for replacement, and I just had to look in the manual, write part numbers, and get them to them. Might be better places to get it, but I can pass along the info too if you need it in case you need any small stuff in regards to the issues. Hopefully not, cause no money spent is better than money spent.

I'll look a little and see what I can see about it not storing your settings when you calibrate.

Got the info

Still having the problem Jay? I got done with my light replacements, wiring, etc. Everything is looking good, and I should be hearing back from my buddy soon on your issues with the machine not saving your settings when you shut it off. If you have time, post some of those coordinates for your joystick calibration and we'll see if we can get that figured out.

I'm gonna dig into mine a little cause my force feedback isn't working, and I want to replace the switch in the trigger on the joystick, so the time is perfect to mess with calibration. :)
