Hi, there is an oppertunity that may come up to purchase a star wars trilogy sit down 50 inch, and i was curious what id be getting myself into, i may be able to get it for $450, and this would have to go up 3 flights of stairs as all my other arcades have had to, and before i commit, i wanted to see what i should expect.

1. Common issues associated with game

2. Will it fit through a regular entry door

3. Signs monitor is about to shit

4. Is $450 too high? Or a good deal? keeping in mind it is missing the top backlit marquee :(

5. How easily does this game become boring..... Any replay value? difficulty settings? I bought a carnevil a month
ago..... I have beat it 3 times....... Now You couldnt pay me to turn it on anymore.......

6. Would you do it if, you were in my shoes?

Thanks for the help / guidance

if its just going in your house id probably go for the regular stand up version. thats one of my dream games, espically since its also too advanced to play on mame currently. i would have played it alot more if it wasnt $2 at the local movie theate. any game can get boring after a while, its not like were talking a 300hr RPG. most arcade games are pretty short and loose the element of suprise after a few run throughs. to me $450 sounds like a good deal for what it is. if you have some where ground level to store it for a little while id probably just flip it myself cause id never fit in in my house

I got through the whole game for less than $5. I'd go somewhere that has it on location and play it all the way through. That's the only way to know if you really want it, in my opinion.

Might save you time and money...

I GOT MINE INTO MY HOUSE AND INTO MY BASSEMENT..

that bieng said i need to clarify.

There are TWO different sit down versions. Theres a black one. Its extra large, has a cockpit type seat and force feedback joystick.

Then theres a white bench version without force feedback and, well, a bench.

I have the white bench version. The marquee comes off the monitor, so moving the monitor and marquee inside the house and doewn the stairs wasnt too bad( the monitor isnt too heavy)

Now the main unit, thats another story. I will get you exact measurements but basically i had to TOTALLY tear the main unit apart casters, spreakers, joysticck, leg levelers, everything in order to get it in the front door. To get it through my basement door, it took me, a buddy,a prybar, and holding the shell of the main unit at a funky sideways upward angle in order to get it through the basement door.

Once downstairs, was just a matter of putting it back togther. Mine did not come with the bench part, so i honestly dont know how movin that would go.

The monitor is the bugaboo. Sooner or later, it will die. Hopefully you will get some good life out of it but you never know. Look at the colors, are they all there? Hows the picture quality? if its fuzzy crts could be dying or mabye the lenses and mirror inside the monitor are dirty. If yoiu see snow in the pic, its already dying. Parts are not really available and nobody will work on them, so ince its dead its dead. The other thing thing to ask for right away is if they have the remote. Let me explain. The monitors have manual adjustments, however there are also a buncvh of on screen adjustments like convergence etc that have to be done with a remote.

Happ sells a lcd conversion kit that installs right into the monitor box. It costs about $1000. Another klover here has used a standard flat panel tv. I think thats a good option as well and when mine dies, thats what i will be doing.
SO yes, theres alot more bs involved versus a standard game, but its so cool i think its worth the extra effort.

I will do my best to measure my doors tonight so you know a minimum door opening needed to get the thing into your house.

I found one with five credits in it last weekend and I came within a hair of finishing it. There isn't much that would change, it seems like a very linear game. If I were you, I would save the $450 and put it towards 1983's Atari Star Wars (a color vector).

Man, im glad i asked these questions, this happens to be the white cockpit version and you see, im on the 3rd floor in a 1 bedroom apt....... So if you had problems with the control panel fitting through the door, it most likely wont be a smart decision for me.....i suppose ill wait untill i get a basement..... But if you still happen to measure your door, i wouldnt mind hearing the dimensions.

I appreciate the responses!

We have a sit down Trilogy and have really enjoyed it. It is big and it does take a lot of space but it really stands out in a game room and the kids love it.

My 2 cents: if you're big on SW I'd go for it, it's a cool looking game and is definitely full of fan service. If you're just a passing fan...I dunno that it will last the long haul (but may be worth picking up anyways, just not as a keeper). I've seen the game 1 credited more than once when it was new and IIRC it has maybe 15-20 minutes tops worth of gameplay in there.

Thread jack: I guess I'm curious what keeps some owners going back to it. It definitely has bad ass atmosphere. :p

I like the game. I play it in the garage when I'm out there. I have my buddy's upright to save space. It's a game that most non-gamers or newbies will hop up and play do to the simple controls. $450 is a great price for the cabinet, but even at that price, I would walk away if it were offered to me. I just couldn't justify the space for the overall replay value. I never play more than two or three continuous games at a time. Looks cool though. :)

Ok man, so sorry for the delayed reply, i havent had too much time to "play" here lately due to work, my kid, and ive been constantly sick this frickin winter..

Ok my front door opening is 36" getting it through there after removing thee joy/cp and speakers was easy..

My basement door opening is 31+1/4" wide. This is where i had to totally strip the main unit, and still got it in with the help of a prybar and stuffing it in there at an odd angle.

Honestly if i wanted the game id have it in my apartment regardless but im nuts lol. ( this coming from the same guy who once has a ms pac multi cocktail in his bathroom lol)

TO be honest its fun for awhile but it does get "stale" after awhile. Its still a fun game man.

so there ya go at least you know what door opening size you absoultely must have.

sorry again for the late reply.

I have a Star Wars Trilogy Deluxe (Sit down). I love it. It adds a little variety to the gameroom, and while it's an easy game, it consistently is the first game new visitors are drawn to.

The assembly is easy enough to break down, so if you can get it into your game room I would recommend it.

It's a great game... for a couple days... IMHO.

That said, if a smaller version came up for $450 I might consider it.

I don't like the projection games... any of them that use analog projectors. The screens just look washed out. The newer DLP projectors are much nicer.
