My beautiful star wars started showing only half the screen then it went out and now it shows nothing. I can plug it in and no picture now. Who can do repair on this in the Bay Area? I really love playing Star Wars.... Any ideas what is wrong with it or how much it will cost?
Thanks

Well, if you have no blown fuses and no burnt parts in the HV cage, then you most likely just need to replace the 6 frame-mount transistors....

Well, if all you need is the six transistors, I think you can get them from Bob Roberts for under $5. Then you just need a 1/4" nut driver (to take the deflection board off), and then a screwdriver to remove the six transistors and replace them with new ones. A multimeter is good to have present so you can make sure there is no continuity between them and the frame (make sure you put the insulator back between them and the frame), and maybe a soldering iron if any of the wires to the transistor sockets have broken off.

Now - if the entire chassis needs repair, you can either do it yourself with a rebuild kit (maybe $40) - if you know how to work on monitors and can solder - or pay someone to fix it for you.

Personally, I charge $50 + parts + shipping to fix a 6100. Parts costs depends on how much you want done besides the repair parts and caps. If you want the low-voltage upgrade done, or any of the Deluxe parts upgrading Bob recommends, then obviously that costs more....

Just a quick ? Which monitor do you have: a Wells Gardner K6100 or the original Amplifone monitor.
As always, when in doubt, a picture tells a thousand words!

starwars monitor

Here are a few pics of the monitor area. I am not sure which kind it is. I would like to do all the changes necessary. It has the Empire strikes back multigame in it also. Do I need to do something special since it does have both games? Too bad you are not closer. Shipping must cost a ton to send a monitor.

Check the connectors that run from the deflection board to the transistors first. Often it's just a loose contact or a cracked pcb track around the connectors.

The multi game kit does not effect the monitor. It is usually just a few modifications to this monitor to get your type of monitor going. They include a New Cap Kit in the HV Unit, 6 New Transistors on the Steel frame and either a LV2000 or LV6100 on the deflection board.

These forums are filled with so many nice people. Thank you all for answering my questions. And a extra special thanks to Slackmoe!!!!
