If you have a 6100 in a SW UR and you want to put in an Amp...
Do they mount the same?
Is it a simple 'pull one out - put one in' type operation?

Yep. Easy direct swap provided you have the mounting brackets for the Amp tube.
Yeah, no modifications or special parts needed then. I just swapped out a 6100 and put an Amp in mine. I was missing one of the wooden mounting rails for the Amp boards, though, and had to replace it.
It helps having a second person just to make sure you don't break any tube necks.
Anyway, from what I understand the chassis of a WG6100 has to be removed from the back and the tube has to go out through the front. (That's the extremely simplified version).

I'm not sure what you are talking about there. I just did one recently....swapped an amp for a WG6100 and the other way around as well. Pulled both monitors out from the front along with the chassis and it worked fine. The WG was actually fairly tight and tended to rub against the speaker grill on the top so I was nervous about scratching it but with some gentle nudging it went through just fine.
Actually I did do a tiny bit of cutting on the wood frame just to make it fit better....probably could have forced it without cutting but it seemed prudent based on how tight it was fitting.
To add to my Star Wars curse, I decided to get an Amplifone. I sent the HV unit and game boards to a respected Klover and I haven't been able to get them back.
So for almost 4 years I've had a big door stop shaped like a Star Wars cabinet.
