I sold my starwars upright. The game worked great. It had recently been played for 5 or 6 hours and had no issues.

the new owner gets it home about 130 miles away and plays it 2 hours and then the screen goes black, but the game plays blind.

Here is what I know from our phone conversation:

The light on the PCB is on.. I think that is normal.

The WG monitor neck is glowing. He could not see the spot killer on the screen, but behind that smoked bezel I am not sure if he could.

Any ideas here for an easy fix ?

I had him check the connections, but he has very little experience.

Ideas on what the most probable cause of the issue is?

I feel bad that it stopped working, but I did warn him that these games are 30 years old and they could continue working for 10 min or ten years.

The light on the game PCB should be on. If it is a 6100, the light on the deflection PCB should not be. If it is a 6100 and the spot killer light is on, it has lost deflection. What monitor is in it?

The monitor is the Wells Gardner.

I asked if he saw a red light on the monitor he said he did not.

No spot killer that he could see.

Here are the facts so far

The Led on the monitor board is not on.
The light on the SW pcb is on.
The neck is glowing

The game worked for 2.5 hours
The game is playing blind now. No spot killer
It is a Wells Gardner

What is the best way to determine if it is a pcb problem or a monitor issue?

I'd tell him unplug it. Reseat the connectors on the Pcb, reseat the connector on the monitor and check all the fuses on the brick power supply, use a ohm meter if he has one. Have him sign up as a member on this site to help out too.

Since it is an upright, is the connector for the monitor still seated in the bracket on the monitor frame (using a wiring harness adapter) or is it just hanging down to reach the short harness? If it is hanging down it's possible one of the wire on the deflection board has cracked the solder joints on the wire leads

Has the monitor ever been rebuilt ? If not it probably needs a complete overhaul. It never ceases to amaze me that people will run vectors without being rebuilt and troubleshoot ones that have never been rebuilt.

Just sayin...
