Trying to get a Star Wars Pinball working for a customer. The machine looks clean, no bad wiring, fuses or anything else I can find. Onboard diagnostics tests originally shows everything passes and the machine is missing 2 balls. So I added 2 balls in hopes that was the problem. Now the machine acts a little goofy. You can coin it up and hit start. Sometimes the display will show "0 balls missing", other times the game will act like it starts up normally, but the ball will not load. Any ideas?

Also, does anyone know any pinball specialists near central MO?

Could be a million things. Is there optos in the trough? Do they all work? Is the ball kicker leading to the shooter lane working? How are the wires? Any burnt connections? How are the ribbon cables? There's just too many questions unanswered to help with your problem. How many balls are currently installed compared to how many there should be?

All connections look fine, all tests pass. 3 Balls are currently in the machine. Thats all I know. Pinballs are not my strong suit.

First off...Is this Data East or Sega Trilogy?

Data East.

The data east Star Wars uses three micro switches in the trough, not optos.

Remove the apron, there are two screws holding it in place, one under each information card on the apron. Once the apron is removed, you will be able to see the trough and the switches. Pull out all of the pinballs from the machine and then go into diagnostics. Go to the switch diagnostic test and make sure that all of the switches in the trough are working correctly, use a pinball to roll into place and make sure that the switches are being read with the pinball in place. Also verify that the switch in teh shooter lane is reading with a pinball in place.

There are a couple switches that I think are bad in the trough. Unfortunately I didnt have time to look and see what kind of switches they are. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Finally got around to trying this, and all the switches are working fine. I think I'm closer to the culprit though. The next test (after switch testing) tests all the coils and relays in a pattern. The outhole coil does nothing. So I assume this is the problem. So heres my question, is there a way to test a coil? Could the issue be elsewhere in the game?
