Thanks for the info on the harness.

No dice on the sale of the chair. My 10 year old girl is a Star Wars nerd, and this is a project for her and I. Like I said, I'm new at the collecting thing, but just so no one flips out, the left side of the cabinet has water damage where the t moulding goes. I have an idea to try to salvage it, but it may get plywood on that side. I would assume that most would have considered it past the point for a refurb.

You would be surprised at the number of games that have been saved by some very dedicated and ingenious members on this site. Games that many considered dumping have been rescued to look new. Dig around in the restoration threads.

Use 3/4" black melamine, if your going to cut a new side. It's the correct thickness, and already black! you can run 1 1/4 screws into the blocking (i'd predrill with a smaller bit) on the sides that go the center panels, like the coin door, etc.. then you can carefully pound on the bad game side and loosen it up. Also can use a hammer and screwdriver to wedge it apart. I did this on a paperboy cab, worked great, changed both sides, one at a time.

No doubt on the willingness of some people to make things happen That80sGuy. I was looking for a cabinet to make a chair for my oldest daughter, and this popped up. She loves Star Wars, so I went for it.

DPtwiz, thanks for the advice. The artwork is in pretty good shape, but the edge of the cabinet has swelled to about a 1/4" wider than the t moulding. I have no idea if it will work, but I was going to try to wax paper the edges and squirt liquid nails into the rotten stuff. Then clamp it to the original size to dry. I'm trying not to spend a load, because one side will likely be against the wall anyway.

Shroud - Sale Pending

Control panel - $50 obo

My 10 year old and I will be building a chair out of a Star Wars upright. It was missing several pieces when I received it, and the left side of the cabinet has major issues. I have dropped one picture (By the way, how can I attach more than one picture per post?) below to show the top of the left side. I can tuck my fingers in about 1.5 inches into where the t moulding should go. The side has swelled to 1.5 to 2 inches wide. She and I are going to try to salvage it, but this side will likely go against the wall.

Sorry smalltownguy2. The smile on my little girl's face is worth it.

Your game to do with what you want. You can get lots of info on fixing the damage in the restoration threads. Just be prepared for more rabid responses on your decision to make it a chair. So far people have been nice.

Thanks for the concern. As I said earlier, I'm sure some people's panties are getting wadded up. I look at it like this: My daughter is getting something that she will cherish (a Star Wars reading chair, she has had a Yoda stocking cap that she got for Christmas on for two days), and at least three people are getting parts that they need to restore their Star Wars uprights. In fact, some of the ones that are disturbed by this "atrocity" needs parts for their restore. Where do they think the parts come from?

Everyone has a right to get all worked up, but that's not what I was shooting for by offering up the parts to collectors. It would be nice if we all tried to help people instead of bashing them. I have no issue in being known on KLOV as "the idiot that "wasted" a Star Wars upright". I'm also sure that the people that will pass snide remarks have no issue being known as "the people who get to decide what everyone does with their machines".
