Star Wars K6100 - faint picture with brightness all the way up

The monitor was dead but the game was playing blind, as seen in this thread:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=210468

Well, I just completed Bob's complete deluxe kit. I the spot killer remains on. With the brightness all the way up, you can see the game. There is one red, one blue and one green dot in the center of the screen. All other colors are present and fine with some of the retrace lines that you get when you jack the brightness all the way up.

BUT. . . You can see most of what you should but it's still not getting the whole picture - missing the edges like it's bloomed a bit.

Adjusting the pot in the HV cage makes no difference.

Again, the deflection, neck and HV boards have all been recapped and all that's done is fixed some deflection problems and brought the monitor back from the dead.

Ideas/suggestions?

TIA!

Low heater voltage would cause a dim screen, should be around the 6V+ mark.

Easy to measure on a WG6100, pins 9 and 10 of the neck

Edit: And, check for weak or almost broken wires out of the focus block, re-solder etc

I'll check the pins. Focus block tho? Is that where the dials are for focus and brightness?

Yes

Behind there are some rubber boots, slide them off and check the joins, and re-solder if not perfect :)

Both of those connections are solid.

I am getting next to zero volts DC on pin 9 and about 3.5 DC on pin 10.

Also, getting just about no pop when I discharge the monitor. Could the fly be going? Have already resoldered the fly's connections on the bottom of the HV board.

Heater voltage is not to ground, put 1 x lead on pin 9 and 1 lead on pin 10 :)

Did you replace the flyback? just out of interest, not suggesting you do it, just wondering

No but thinking that may be the next step. I thought when flybacks went, they went completely, producing NO pic at all.

EDIT: Were this an Ampli, would you suspect that as the problem?

Well, Amplifone red FBs need to be replaced as they were defective (we all know the story there). But I am unaware if WG61's had a problem at all?

There will be experts here who will know what causes this problem.

Have you flowed all header pins solder?

Okay.

Oh, yes. All reflowed, cleaned pins, etc.

*sigh*

For the record, I've dealt with 2 different flybacks that partially worked before giving up the ghost all together. One of them (in a WG 19K7302) produced a very faint picture, presumably to low heater voltage. The other one had A/C ripple. (in a 19" disco).
