Star War's Empire Strikes Back Kits

Interesting note: every time I go into the test mode on ESB, and use the aux coin button to advance to the self test, the game locks up and the spot killer comes on. It'll save any settings changes, but requires a complete power down and power up to restart it.

Mine does the same thing. It's such a minor thing I didn't even bother reporting it.

Yeah, me neither. Well, I guess I mentioned it here, but I didn't send anything to Mike about it. I'm so happy to have the kit that I won't complain about it at all. We're lucky to have these great folks making these types of things anyway. Hell, we're lucky these games even still work at all.

Help needed!

Thanks to Vector Labs for making the kit and to SamInVA for the install video.

So I tested my SW upright with it's WG 6100 vector monitor, and everything was good. Followed the updated on July 4, 2011 instructions (watched Sam's video first) to install the kit and upon testing I have problems that appear to be video related. The program seems to run OK (no crashing) and audio seems OK but video is problematic.

I can switch between games (left thumb 2 secs, right thumb 2 secs) and start a game. The X-Wing and cursor draw OK. Nothing dynamic (stars, tie fighters, death star, etc) draw correctly. In ESB, top left and part of bottom left quadrant collapse.

Can I replace parts of the multi-kit (such as the vector generator board) with original parts to troubleshoot? If not, how do I troubleshoot the issue?

Video on youtube (90 seconds):

Thanks!

Problem found. Kit works 100%! Now to fix the problems I caused while trying to troubleshoot the problem. :-/

More info, including a pic, this weekend.

So, I bent a pin while installing and this caused my problems. Fortunately I found it while uninstalling the kit. But the bent pin broke off while I was trying to straighten it. Fortunately this pin was redundant so unnecessary (I think/hope). However, I bent another pin while removing the sound board and also managed to break that pin off but this one was A13 which I think may be important. I jumpered the signal for now but need to circle back and find a way to replace the broken machine pins, if possible.

ESB Kit Hi Score

Looking at the thread, it seems the kit should save scores for ESB and SW both. What do you think the issue could be if it only saves scores for ESB games?

Should it save all scores on the able or just the top few?

Thanks

John
