I'm the proud owner of a new (to me) Star Wars. I'm getting familiar with all the ins and outs of vectors, Amplifone, etc. I did a search on here, as well as google, looking for pictures of the Star Wars diags to see how mine compares. Sadly, I couldn't find anything! There are some old posts here, but the picture links no longer work :(

So I thought I'd take pictures of mine. I know the geometry needs a little adjustment. The full set of pictures is on my web site (http://www.aaarpinball.com/ASW/ASW.htm), but I'd appreciate hearing from other SW owners about the following specific one.

Is that what it should look like? The SW manual seems to indicate the "filled area" should fit in the box. However, in my case, the "filled area" escapes the box at an angle.

Thanks...

Hey guys got it! Woo HOO!!! Man she's beautiful, ill post pics tomorrow. (its still on the back of the truck lol) Mine has excellent side art, awesome cpo and frt art, and nice marquee, but a little cab rot on the bottom corners. Im told the monitor dont come on at all, but for $150.00 i think i still got a good deal. And the guy met me with it already loaded 25 miles from my house at a Wal Mart. Will post pics tomorrow. But i may behind you guys a little bit .....if i have no monitor life.

I just reduced the Y size... now I can see the bottom of the screen better.

Regarding BIP. The AVG board appears to be in the cage. What's the best approach for adjusting this while the game is on? Or is that even possible.

Thanks!

Get rid of the RF board if it's still on there and connect the harness straight on to the motherboards. Slide the motherboards about 1/4 of the way out of the cage and you will be able to see and adjust the pots while the game runs.

Thanks! Yes, I still have the RF board. I've now removed that. Nice design of the cage... the 2 PCBs slide out nicely.

But now I feel like an idiot. I cannot find the XBIP and YBIP pots. Schematic says they are R88 and R92. Any suggestions were to look for them? There are several pots, but none seem to match.

Found them. Will post pic later. The pots pretty much cover up 90% of the labeling.

Now onto adjustment...

Ok... Good and bad news... I made the BIP adjustment and it looked great! I found that the raster diag screen was a good "fine tune" screen --- better than the BIP diag screen with the 4 boxes.

That was the good news. Now the bad...

After about 5 minutes of play testing, something strange happened. A bright dot appeared in the middle of the monitor. Then all the "vector scan lines" started appearing, making the screen look like a mess. By this I mean all the "hidden" lines you typically don't see between the X,Y points.

I'll search the forum and see if people have found this before. But any comments are greatly appreciated!

Also, any harm in running the monitor while in this state (while trying to figure it out)?

Turn the brightness down.

So basic... and basic is always good... I was concerned, however, because the brightness was fine, played and looked great, and then for no reason it just went into this "show retrace" mode.

But I will check out the brightness. I was in-front of the game when this happened... not like I accidentally turned it.

Could be lots of reasons for it. Any original Amplifone that has never been touched is on borrowed time. You might want to start reading up on it and do some preventive maintenance before it blows up.

Well more good and bad news...

I seem to have figured out why the "retrace" lines started showing up. The part that plugs into the yoke was really loose! I was able to push it on at least 1/4" further. Now the problem has not shown up for over 10 minutes of testing. I suppose it must have gotten loose when I transported the game.

And now the bad news. It looks like this issue caused a small circle of screen burn in the center of the monitor. I'm kinda disappointed in this since I was very careful not to leave the game on very long while while in this condition. I suppose it is possible it was there before and I didn't notice --- but I'm doubtful. But it's there now ... doesn't show up 99% of the time, but you can see it when the screen flashes white and you are looking for it. ugh, oh well.

Probably one of those things that I'll notice but no one else will.
