Is this a deal or would it cost to much to make it an original? It is one of my holy grails. I really am itchin.

Ad says this:

For sale is a very collectable star wars arcade cabinet. I bought this game with the intentions of converting it back to its original state, but I have too many projects. The game has been converted to aliens and works but I would consider this a project game.

your big ticket items will be the monitor, PCB, and the yoke controller. If you really want a Star Wars then it wont matter the price of parts. And it would be nice to see a Star Wars rescued and restored.

I would say it would probably cost as much or more to bring it back as it would to just buy a complete one. You need some expensive parts there. Working board set $200,monitor $250-350 and the flight controls not even sure how much that is. Not counting all the other little stuff.

working wells maybe $250-$350. Working amp, add +$100

your looking at $700+ in parts. Unless that cabinet is prestine, walk away.

I'm going to go look at it and will probably bring it home anyway.I have a hard time saying no when I look at a working game for $150.If so in time it will be a star wars again I am willing to spend the money and I would know everything that's new and working correctly. Thanks for the advice.

Your monitor won't be new...

THe yoke, marquee, monitor, pcb set, wireharness. That cab is worth 50 tops.

+1. I love star wars artwork too, but at $150, I'd just buy a poster. Its gonna be a long process to buy and hook everything up. You'll have to get the wiring right, you'll have to troubleshoot why things don't work, and on and on. Buying one working solves all that drama.

I have most of the parts you need (not including the Yoke), but as most said, it would not be cheap...

the really important question here is:

why the eff would anyone convert a SW? good gravy......

You have to understand the operator mindset. They took a game that was older and had lower and slowing revenue at some point, and converted it to a newer game, and that got the quarters flowing again in this cab. They don't care about what the game was, its the almighty dollar that got that cab converted. I know two guys, that worked on these games back during the golden years. They have no problem giving advice on repairing the game, but always want to know why I want to mess those old games, and laugh at me when I tell them the money they could make repairing PCBs for these games. They told me stories of cabs they smashed up, when the money slowed down.

It would be great to see it restored, but if it were me -- and I was truly only interested in it because I wanted a Star Wars -- I'd pass on this one and put the money towards a complete and fully functioning one.

Parts are not cheap as mentioned. This is perfect for someone that already has one and could swap parts from old to new and end up with a nicer unit.
Monitor - $250 - $450
Boardset - $230
Wiring harness - $30-$50
Yoke - Ram Controls $280 new otherwise ~$150 for a used yoke which you can plan on rebuilding having to spend money on a 14 tooth gear and rubber bumpers at a minimum.

Now add the $150 for the cabinet. This is not a good deal.

Exactly. You never know what you are going to happen upon in the future and if this cabinet is in decent shape, you are that much closer to having a nice Star Wars.

Anybody who has been in the hobby long enough knows you "happen upon" things at regular intervals... look at the recent FREE Major Havok and $10 Joust posts here. :)

Good luck with the project! :beerchug:

Personally, if you would take special pride in undertaking the project from scratch, cost be damned, do it.

But, if the intent is to just have a working game to play, pass on it.

It all depends on how much money you want to put into it. If you have an the money and want to spend it that way, who are we to tell you otherwise? I'm not a big Star Wars fan but that is a neat game.

I would pay $150 for just about any working game (unless its really crappy), so long as the cabinet is in generally good condition.

If your anything like me, you don't have the coin to drop right now on a working Star Wars. I see it kind of like making payments on a car or more like putting something on layaway. Pay as you can (buy parts as you can) and eventually you will have a nice Star Wars. Plus, for me it feels good to bring an old game back to life. As you say, $150 for a working game is not that bad. You could continue to play Aliens until you find the parts and then when you do, sell the Aliens board and use the monitor for another project.

But that's just me......I am a sucker for punishment. And I have a shit load of projects.....
