Star Wars Arcade - Would be 1st...

Congrats on what will hopefully be your first (of many) pick-ups. The main things collectors look for on Star Wars machines is the type of monitor, originally they came with an Amplifone which looks like a bare tube with the boards mounted to the sides of the cabinet.

Often those were replaced with a 6100 which has a box-like metal frame structure around it, and a perforated metal box cover over the high voltage unit.

The Amplifone is the better of the two units for a couple of technical reasons, and will command a higher price among collectors.

Other than that, the usual stuff to look for are condition issues like water damage, broken edges, graffiti, etc. Be sure to post pictures of your haul here!

good point.... this will be an adventure... if all goes well I will post pics this evening.

Just to be clear, that means the monitor, the power supply, the boards, everything. Tipping a cab with anything loose is like tipping a box full of unwrapped china. People do it all the time, but attention to detail is key. Good luck with the buy!

Congrats on your pick-up! I brought mine home on its back in my Explorer. No issue doing that. Like others have said, make sure everything is bolted down first!

In general, when looking at any game, just take a good look at everything inside the game and if anything looks like a hack or non-original be weary.

Someday I'd like to see an ampliphone in action on one of these. Mine has a 6100 (never seen an amp in anything actually).

To the OP: As others have said make sure it's complete or at least be careful in what you pay if it isn't. The pcb alone seems to command around $300 or more if it works.

Honestly... the Amp is over rated. Sure... it's nice to have... and yeah, I'd rather have one, but the visuals really aren't that much different. Unless you had a SW with an amp next to an SW with a 6100... 99% of the people out there wouldn't know the difference.

And here's what I said:

Which is 100% correct and not *over-rating* anything. Would I kick a Star Wars with a 6100 to the curb? No way, but the Amp is the better of the two monitors in this particular machine. The OP asked what to look for, and pointing out the differences in monitors for this title is a key point.

+1 Frizz...

So is an amp considered more reliable from a technical standpoint? In a home use environment, I wouldn't think it would matter provided either type were rebuilt and somehwat bulletproofed. I mean back in the day they were putting 6100's in place of the amp so both had/have their shortcomings.

A Star Wars game itself is more over rated than the Amplifone. You could buy another color vector that is arguably just as fun for a few hundred less. Dont get me wrong, I own a Star Wars and love it ( with an Amp of course) but it seems a little off to talk about an Amp being over rated when the game the Amp is in is over rated to begin with. At least the extra money spent on an Amp buys you something that is better quality with a better picture and if rebuilt and upgraded can even be more reliable than a 6100.

Also, take your time when going through the game before you buy it. I've rushed in the past only to break or miss something..

Amps are really nice, but if you've never seen one.. A 6100 is perfectly fine :)

Star wars with 6100 in very nice condition: $600-850

Star wars with Amp in very nice condition: $850-1250

I just sold a very clean and near perfect one that was completely rebuilt in the last month, as in ARII, new fly, rebuilt yoke, rebuilt chassis, big blue, etc. sold it for the top of the price range with an Amp.

Where you able to pickup the Star Wars? Pictures! I hope all went well!

Unfortunately the guy flaked, said they listed it for to little and raised the price. I even went in a few hundred more. They were supposed to send better pics. Never happened. Sent 2 texts this morning with no response. Guys girlfriend called wanted to do the deal. I then said no thanks..... She then said I was unprofessional and that she had taken the day off... WHAT? Then, the guy called back and said I was rude.

I need drama like a hole in the head...

After reading more and more through the forums, I will be patient and either pick something up from a fellow member or maybe get lucky.

Super bummed though....
