Star Wars Amplifone : Can a broken dag wire cause the pcb to not boot.

I believe I know the answer to this, but can a broken dag spring/wire cause an otherwise working star wars to go....semi haywire and not boot up. Thanks in advance.

might if the high voltage is arcing some where but most likely not. disconnect the monitor and see if the board boots.

Game works fine hooked to another monitor. I read in another thread that the board uses the ground circuit of the Dag wire for something and that it would go into to watchdog if it wasn't grounding to the aquadag on the tube. That is, if I read things correctly. Mainly looking for confirmation or clarification from someone more knowledgeable. Plus, I didn't know it before. I thought someone else might not either.

Fifth post down. I'm not sure if the 2 prong, or 3 prong pin is only to make a loop circuit to complete the ground, but I thought maybe a broken and arcing dag spring might cause the shut down or reset of the the board .

the "board" in that thread you referenced is the HVU not the game board.

If there is enough high voltage leaking about the cabinet it could effect the game board. I find that hard to imagine though.

The DAG doesn't interface with the logic board and its WATCHDOG.
The DAG interfaces with the High-Voltage supply and must be present for that to operate.

Thanks for the clarification. I was pretty tired at the time. I may have left the dag wire unplugged or even the yoke. It was a bad luck kind of day that day.

Replaced the Dag spring with solder wick and a spring from lowes

Replaced the Dag Spring with 2 pieces of thicker solder wick a with a spring soldered in between them. Turned out pretty well. Got a spare HV pcb working with it. Unfortunately, I think the problem lies with the original HV pcb. Seems like its got a runaway high voltage that is going into HV shut down. The heater was coming and going, and would come back when I checked the high voltage. Don't even know where to start with this thing at this point. I have a spare flyback, but I have high voltage. Too much of it in fact. I suspect a loose wire. Maybe a ground, or a bad connection between the dag spring. This was on a different tube mind you that had no problem with the dag spring. Sometimes you get the vectors.....sometimes the vectors get you. I'll have to post when I figure out what to ask. But thanks for the help with the Dag spring. Better do some research first.
