Just got a Star Trek Voyager w/ missing monitor.
Also have a CGA/EGA/YUV to VGA Arcade HD-Converter PCB (GBS-8220) from a DKJR project I haven't started.

Ok. I got the machine running.
The hard drive was toast; but strangely the Battery was ok.
I reimaged a 120GB WD ATA100 drive from CHD.

I have the machine booting into Linux / Xwindows... and the game launches. The switches / gun switches are working (according to switch test).

However, there is no video output from the Jamma adapter.
I think I hooked it up correctly; but the adapter is saying no signal.
If I connect directly to the VGA connector; the game/video is there.

So; Here's what I determined from the jamma harness:
http://www.jammaboards.com/images/JAMMA_Functional_Connections.gif
STV = GBS-8220
Yellow/Red (pin 1) = R (P11 pin R)
Yellow/Green (pin 2) = G (P11 pin G)
Yellow/Blue (pin 3) = B (P11 pin B)

Yellow/Black (pin 8) = GND (P11 GND)
Yellow/White (pin 10) = V Sync (P11 VS)

I tied the 5VDC for the converter to a 4pin molex from the PC PSU.

Suggestions?

Helpful manual(s):

Hmm. Read thru the manual for the adapter. If the auto-scan isn't finding it, have you tried manually stepping thru the output resolutions to see if one pops it up?

The Team Play document for their JAMMA does not seem to match the pinout you mention. The complete document is too large to attach here but I have attached the video pins. PM if you want the complete document.

Simple question, you are running a VGA cable from the computer MB to the VGA in on the MegaJAMMA board? And yes the MegaJAMMA board does need power.

Also I am not clear why you are using a converter to get VGA when you say that the computer VGA works. Why not just run from that port?

The hardware for STV runs in Medium res in dedicated cabinets. I "think" that the kit was also able to run at std res but I'm not 100% sure. The I/O board pinout is std JAMMA so you should follow that as far as the monitors signals go.

One other thing. The guns wont work on an LCD monitor. Those light guns depend on the way a CRT "redraws" the screen in order to see where the guns are pointed. Also, you may not be succesful using a scan converter again because the way the guns work.

Gamefixer is correct, the dedicated game board only works with a Medium res monitor but the Kit will work with a standard Res or Medium Res monitor, you just have to set the dip switches on the Mega-Jamma board. Wile the game uses a Jamma harness, it gets all it's power from the ATX PC power supply which powers the mother board. The Mega-Jamma board has what looks like a button battery on it but it's not a battery but some type of memory device which is like a security chip. You need the Mega-Jamma board for the guns to work and their is a VGA cable from the computer MB to the VGA in on the MegaJAMMA board.
Here's what came with my Kit.

The video won't come up. I've went though every menu (I think) and finally found the one to change the menus from chinese to english. But not seemed to work.

My assumption was that the FPGA on the Mega Jamma "syncs" the guns to the EGA signal going to the monitor. But that was just an assumption.

I matched the pinout you posted - thanks. The difference is that my cables were yellow instead of white. The color banding is correct and matches.

Any way I could get a copy of that manual? might help with debug.

I should state that the video does come up when using the converter; it just looks like the syncs are toast. IE sometimes the video appears with horz & vert tearing.

Humm. Fair assements. I have a old 17" CRT VGA monitor in a closet. I'm going to try to see if I can get the guns to work with the CRT.

Tried with a CRT plugged into the VGA cable. Guns do not work.
Tried with CRT plugged into converter; no video.

Tried
Yellow/White (pin 10) = Sync (P11 S)
No change to video.

I'm guessing the converter is crap and won't work with this game.
Any other suggestions?

Well it seems you are going about this the wrong way. You have a dedicated Voyager. You need to find a Med Res monitor. Nothing else will work. If after you install the correct monitor it still doesn't work you may have a bad Mega-Jamma board or it may be your hard drive copy doesn't work. I did scan the manual into a PDF file which is almost 5 MB in size. PM me your Email address and I will send you a copy of the file. I don't think it has any needed info unless your game is up and running. Gun games are sometimes hard to get working correctly even with the correct hardware. If your not sure how the light guns work here's an article that might help.

Good luck and hope you get it working. I think it's a great game.

Thanks to modessitt - I'm now the owner of a working 25" medium res arcade monitor.

I now have working video.
The problem now appears to be the light guns not registering. They come up 257 in the calibration screen.

Too cold tonight to attempt a debug session. will try when it warmer tomorrow afternoon.

Anyone have a how-to or some other info how to troubleshoot light guns?

It is possible the CHD file used to restore the toasted HD ... might have the light gun software disabled?
