I picked up a cheap STV board set. Now I have to get it working. I have be discussing this with some members here via PMs. Thanks for the help. But I would like to open it up to a larger audience.

I have several question:

MAINBOARD: This is just a computer so if there is an issue with it I should be able to exchange another computer for it? Would a different computer speed effect the speed of the game play?

MEMORY: How much memory is supposed to be on board? This one came with one stick or 128k in the outer bank. The pictures I found on here show memory in the inner (bank closest to the center of the board) bank. What should it have?

MEGAJAMMA: I understand that this board contains some kind of security chip. What error occurs without it? I am trying to perform basic trouble shooting without this board attached. How far should I be able to get? Do I need all the JAMMA controls connected to make the game work?

HARDDRIVE: I think that this is the main source of errors. The game does not appear to be in MAME so I can not find a CHD to restore. There are CF drive replacements but they appear to be only 2 gig and the hard drive is 20 gig? What is the best course of action here?

MAINBOARD: The main board is just an IBM mother board. They used at least 2 different types. I have both types both working. My new factory kit has the red board and my cockpit game has the tan color board.

MEMORY:Their is only one memory board in each main board. I never checked to see what size they were and they are both in the inside slot as in the pictures below. The pictures are of my 2 board sets and both are fully working boards.

MEGAJAMMA: The MegaJAMMA boards appear to be the same on both boards. I have been told the security chip on the board looks like a button battery which is in a battery holder but it's not really a battery but some type of memory device. So don't try to replace it with a battery. I am not 100% sure about that but that's what I was told.

HARDDRIVE: If I had to guess I would say your problem is most likely the hard drive which is the only part that can wear out and if the game has been on location all these years theirs a good bet it's got some hours on it. That's why I decided to replace mine with the compact flash drive. I really need to install it and see if it really works, I think it came with a 1 year warranty.
That's about all I know about the game.

The JAMMA adapter has a Dallas Semiconductor memory button on it which is used for copy protection.

The PC motherboard has a CR-2032 battery on it. If it dies, the parallel port settings will go back to the standard settings and the system won't be able to communicate with that JAMMA adapter so it won't boot into the game.

If that happens, replace the battery, reset the CMOS settings, and enjoy the game again.

I may have to see if that's what's up with my upright. I wasn't aware it needed a med-res monitor, so I couldn't see whatever the error message was.

But - I have the CHD image on a disc. I got it a while back in case I needed to reimage a hard drive...

From what I understand the dedicated games will only work with a Med Res monitor but the Kit version will work on a Standard Res monitor which I have run my kit on a 13" G07 and it worked great. Their is a VGA cable coming off the video card going to the Multi-JAMMA. You can plug a computer monitor direct off the video card and plug in a key board to reset the COSMO after you change the battery on the mother board. Don't mistake the one on the Mega-JAMMA for a battery, as I was told it's not a battery but some sort of memory device which is the security chip even though it's mounted in a battery holder.

Mine runs at standard res. but from poking around it appears that the system is running a Linux kernel and the screen resolution is controlled by the x-windows system. So it may depend on the hard drive image unless the two different types run different video cards.

I have been plugging the video to a multisync monitor so I can watch the boot and the game screens (when it goes that far).

I would like the CHD so that I could experiment further.

If you havent seen it yet I made a video of my cockpit game booting up for someone that wanted to know if their's was booting up right.

Mod,

Just plug in a VGA computer monitor to set up the CMOS on the motherboard after replacing the battery. After that, use the arcade monitor.

Well, I have to:

1) Recap the monitor - Nanao MS8-26SU

2) Figure out how to power a 100v monitor in this damn thing

first...

If anyone needs a copy of the Star Trek Voyager manual I scanned it into a PDF file. It's a 4.94 MB file but I can Email it if you need it.
