I have a STV with a bad motherboard.
Is it safe to say i can not just replace it with a different motherboard. Does it have to be the same motherboard?

without knowing a thing about STV motherboards I can say this:

check google Images to see what kind of similarities/differences there are between the different versions if there are different versions of the board

if there are different versions
I would want to see if the connections are the same or different
power in/out in the same place
chip sizes and locations
capacitor locations, anything to tell me if it may or may not be possible

you might pull up totally different images which would make your decision for you without having to know squat about any of it

hopefully the different revisions are minor enough to be able to substitute one version with another
maybe one of these guys here knows exactly whats up but in lieu of that knowledge, I would start by comparing any images with what you have

you have checked you have +5volts dc going into the board and clean and tight grounds ??? last thing you want to do is to have a bad power supply and no matter what version you put in there, you would have the very same problem

check the +5volts on the power supply and ON THE BOARD
if you do have the correct +5volts ON THE BOARD then maybe there is a problem with the CPU good luck

How do you know your mother board is bad? What is your game doing?
My cockpit was dead when I got it and replacing the power supply fixed the game.
As far as I know their are 2 different mother boards used in Voyager.
I have a cockpit that has a yellow MB and a NOS kit that has a red mother board.
The cockpit version only works with a Med Resolution monitor. The red kit version will work on either a Standard Resolution or Med Resolution monitor. I believe the difference is due to the security button on the MegaJamma card but don't hold me to that. Here is a picture of each.

I dont know if any of this will help but I saved the PDF files off Teamplays website on resetting the BIOS and the dip switch settings for the Megajamma which came in my kit. I assume you can down load a PDF I posted below but I don't think I have ever tried it before. If not I can always email them to you.

i got it to boot with the picture of the power connection, i have a Question about the dips on the motherboard do they matter what position they are in?

I assume the dip switches would make a difference. You said you have the yellow MB. I found a couple pictures of my working yellow MB with dip switches and jumpers. I don't know if that's all thats on the board but it's the only pictures I could find. Did the game boot up on the game monitor or are you just connection it to a PC monitor for testing?
Here is a video of my cockpit booting up so you can see where yours is going wrong.

Um... Motherboard Jumpers / Switches "Usually" will not have anything to do with the game side.
Your motherboard and his may not have the same CPU ect... so the switches may be not set the same at all.

Motherboard Jumpers will mostly turn on Ports, set IRQ's Set Buss speed set CPU clock, (Voltages to the CPU) ect...
Be 100% sure you know what your doing as setting these can cause problems and or blow things up.

(Especially if you accidentally overclock and or over volt the CPU)

Star Trek Voyager Arcade wont load

I have a star trek voyager sit down arcade that wont boot fully, It goes thru its initial boot, comes up with the X in the middle then goes to the Linux screen with 3 folders on the screen but stops there. Did it loose its autoexec.bat style program or is there something else going on?
