Working on a sttng and it's got a few issues I wasn't to sure about.

the game boots fine and posts no errors.

First off when the guns are loaded they move really slow, once the ball is launched out of them they speed up. While messing around with it I found once the opto's sense a ball it slows down. Is this normal behavior?

second problem, when starting up a game and you select lock feature, launch it and one ball locks, suddenly the game kicks out 2 balls while the original ball remains locked. Sometimes you can play forever when this happens.

any help would be appreciated..

suddenly the game kicks out 2 balls

was thinking of using the tired joke about how you are screwed and should just sell the game to me

unsure if STTNG uses switches or optos in the ball trough. probably optos

either way, put it into test mode. then go to the switches in the test menu and see if they are working by blocking/unblock the opto/switch with a piece of paper or a ball or a mag lite will do it. the mag lite will trigger the opto if you shine it into the receiver which i believe is the one that faces towards the coin door. whatever method, see if it shows up on the display switch menu opening/closing. if it's broken, probably the transmitter opto is broken and can easily be replaced and are cheap. i think thats the one that breaks more often than the receiver but my memory might have that bass ackwards

marco sells them if you determine thats the problem. they can be found here:
http://www.marcospecialties.com/storeitems.asp?txtkey=opto&radSort=1

think they can be bought even cheaper someplace, possibly here:
http://www.competitiveproducts.com/landing.php?q=opto
if the site looks weird, click on the compatability view button as that site comes up strange sometimes
unsure who has cheaper shipping. they both are darned fast. if you only need one, PM me with your address and ill drop one in the mail for ya for christmas in July

while in the switch test mode, check the optos for the guns. maybe a problem can be found there hopefully

if it were mine, i'd take both those gun aparatuses apart, clean them, replace any worn parts, pins in the connectors, coil sleeves if they have them(i dont know, never seen one), grease up any parts that need it, etc. just for the fun of it. got to be careful as i start doing that, i might just shop the whole game out and the last thing i need right now is another 3 month project

:)

I already checked the optos and replayed the ones that were not working properly.

As for the guns, I think it's got to be some sort of power issue, when the optical switches view a ball in the gun it runs much slower then when they don't view it. I took one apart and cleaned it up and it didn't make a difference.

Really weird. Does the same voltage that powers the optos power the launcher motors?

Great Lakes Modular produces replacement ball trough opto boards, if you ever get tired of messing with the originals.

I ordered new bridge rectifiers and caps, I found a reference where a failing bridge rectifier caused the guns to slow down. Not exactly the same as I'm experiencing but it's a direction on head in...
