Can anyone tell me what the default settings are supposed to be for Star Trek (the Strategic Operations Simulator)?

Photons:
Difficulty:
Bonus:

The manual documents the settings but what were the defaults? Most games seem to document that but not this manual. :)

Trying to come up with something sensible to use on my game.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting this i was wondering the same for mine, i don't have a manual.

Well, let's see if anyone answers now. :)

I've played with 2 different settings:

photons 2
diff: med
bonus 20K

and

photons 4
diff: easy
bonus 10k

and I can say that the 2nd group of settings is FAR easier.

Braido, I think the manual is available via link on the KLOV videogames section.

I found this site but have no idea if it's correct.

The T.G. marathon record was achieved on factory settings which are Medium difficulty, 3 Shields to start, 3 Photon Torpedoes to start, and replenished every 20,000.

The T.G. tournament record was achieved on the game set at Tournament difficulty, 3 Shields to start, 3 Photon Torpedoes to start, and replenished every 40,000.

(The settings currently listed on the Twin Galaxies' site are not correct).

Cool, I was hoping you'd weigh in.

What is impacted by the difficulty setting? Any idea?

I'm surprised the tournament there was set to anything other than factory defaults.

When the difficulty is increased, the game just gets to maximum difficulty more quickly.

I'm starting to wonder if my question is meaningless.

I typically leave my games on the default settings just because most people do and it gives you a basis of comparison for other people playing the game.

Without default values indicated in the manual I'm not sure if this is relevant.

It's interesting that TG played with those values but that doesn't really get to the crux of the issue.

Sam's link was more interesting but I wonder where that info came from? Someone on KLOV I'm thinking. But again, without well known default values for the game I'm not sure how important this is.

That webpage shows MAMEs default setting.

I didn't see anything in the dipsettings in the cockpit manual, conversion manual, or the cage's external sticker that indicated default values.

I've seen defaults sometimes mentioned in text however but didn't get a chance to read the entire manuals to check for them.

Looking for a citing, either in a manual or memo. Barring that, could take a sample of presumably untouched cpu boards.

If I could get my boards out of the cage I'd check them, :D

Every Star Trek game I played in the 80s played the same and gave the bonuses as I mentioned above.

To confirm what I said about tournament can someone set their game to that difficulty and let me know if that setting by itself changes the Shield and Photon torpedo bonuses? (My memory is foggy on that). :D

You can mostly read the dip switches from the back -- no need to pull the board. :)

I can believe the settings you mentioned because on Easy and 10K I went WAY farther into it than I ever have before. :)
