I really need to get this cabinet back into shape. The sideart is really pretty bad. I was curious though, as it will hold me up, but I was thinking of attempting to run scans of the sideart. A real mystery to me why all these NOS sideart's have been stuck on with apparently no scan run to preserve the art.
But just how hard would it be to 'touch-up' scans of some pretty bad condition sideart? Should I even bother trying or just get the sanders out and repaint it brown?
I've got what I've managed to find posted on my site, but not getting a whole lot of input on developing or finding the original (looks like an oil painting-not a vector).
So should I try scanning or just start restoring without sideart?

When I did mine, I took a high res scan of the game flyer art. Then I modified/re-sized the image so that it would take up most of the side of my cab. I added in the Sega logo and Star Trek title, since they weren't present in the flyer art. Then I had Scott at mamemarquees print out the side art.

Holy crap that looks sweet. You did all that from a little flyer? Do you still have the Hi Res scans?

Hook me up, man! I just got back from Lowe's with the following paint codes from Gamestencils.com

Sherwin Williams latex satin

BAC Colorant 0z 32 64 128
W1-White - 6 1 1
B1-Black - 33 - -
R2-Maroon - 8 1 1
Y3-Deep Gold - 16 - -

Quart Ultradeep

A91t00254 640382552

both Lowes and Menards told me I'd have to go to Sherwin Williams to get this color matched.
I'm not sure about it though because the color swatch next to it on site is a bit 'redder' than the cabinet I'm looking at. I'm not sure this is the best paint code for a dedicated Star Trek upright.
I'm thinking of just rolling it, but I really should spray with compressor.

I have scans of Star trek :)

Saweet! I take it Mbot used a different scan. I am not seeing a seam on the Mbot sideart. There would be an obvious seam if it were printed in 2 parts.
but these look to be incredible files. How easy would it be to add in the Sega logo? Or should I leave that up to Scott?
I'll have to ask if he prefers .psd or .tiff??
I'm also curious about the cut. I know on the Sega Dedicated, there's about an inch of space from the cabinet edge to the artwork. I was thinking of making some kind of template using perhaps some scrap plexi.

nope, there was no seam in my image and the side art was one piece. Cost a pretty penny to print out too. The game flyer art has the full image of the painting used for the side art, that's what I used.

I don't have the file anymore, sorry. But if you have the game flyer, get it scanned at 300 dpi, then resize it in Photoshop. Also, take a good profile picture of your cabinet and rezize that so it is has the correct dimensions. then you can overlay the side art image in another layer to get it to lay out like you want it to.

I take it you work alot with Photoshop? How about taking the 2 images and combine them from within photoshop to make them one piece, size the artwork to match the cabinet edges, then send it to the printer? I'll have to ask Scott if he could print something like that. At the furthest edge of the original artwork, it measures 30x48" and it's missing the SEGA logo.
I wish I were more adept at photoshop, but I don't want to get this wrong. Would you be willing to take a look at it or are you pretty tied up? With Dezbaz's permission of course. And I still need to ask Scott if a 30x48" would be a problem. I'd just like to get that seam out of there, as with age, it's the weakest point. And it'd be great if it were already sized to fit the dedicated. I mean I'm sure I'd have to cut but, it's alot easier to know where to when it's all black or white.
My point I'm not sure about is, the size of the photo of the side of the cabinet, then measuring the artwork to match the background layer. I'm afraid I'd be off and I could be way off, but I'd only discover this AFTER printing and after paying the bill, after it ships and after finally recieving it. There would be a long time in between there. And I'm sure the printer would NOT like a redo. Where, with a standard (poster print) I could just cut to size and be absolutely sure it's going to work.

Yes, I work with Photoshop. I can combine the images for you into one file as long as it's cool with dezbaz. (It will be pretty large though)

Wonderful. Thanks for the test putting up a new thread concerning this.

no problem, could also try putting the files themselves in a zip file and seeing if that would allow you to just click and have it auto download, instead of having to right click

Okay, just an update.
I put the two image files (top and bottom) together in one new photoshop file.

Problem is the images don't line up 100% and there are also lighting differences in the two scans. So, even with the two images together, it sill looks like there is a "line" seperating them.

I'll have to work with the new image some more to bland the two layers together better. I'll post the new file when it's done.

I noticed that too when I loaded them both up into photoshop. They were like completely different orientation. I didn't notice the lighting differences though. I didn't get that far, I just couldn't get them to line up.
