Started up Star Trek tonight after a few weeks and I noticed the picture blooming. (Shrinking and then re-expanding randomly)

Didn't seem to overly correlate with anything, but the worst instance I saw was at the start of a level, and it shrunk by at least an inch on all sides.

The very first thing I did with this monitor was give it a full cap kit, so I don't think it's that. What else could I be looking at? Seems like a HV issue to me. Would rather figure this out before a small problem becomes a big problem.

Possibly bad pots? Have you tried cleaning all the adjustment pots with alcohol? If not, it could be a myriad of things, I am no expert on vector chassis either.

Clean your connectors to the CRT. Check for cracking around the pins. Reflow the chassis pins.

I pulled out Star Trek so I could take a look at the reset issue and hopefully diagnose the monitor.

I reseated all the connections that I could easily get to, but no change.

However, I can *hear* some kind of bad electrical noise as it was pulsing. Anyone recognize this sound on a G08?

Think I fixed it. I was poking around in the chassis while it was running and noted if I hit the HV cage harness it would start having issues.

Took it out, reflowed everything suspect, replaced the headers, put it back in. Seems ok.

Bad solder could have been the problem, but keep an eye on it for a little while. I'm starting to accumulate a small box of HV units that hiss and sputter without remedy, sometimes accompanied by an ozone odor. I've yet to see a G08 transformer crack open and explode like a G07 but some do develop internal issues over time.
