Well... we all know (or would know if you owned one) that Star Castle side art reproductions are simply not available at this time. Unfortunately the ink jetters also do not offer this product as there hasn't been a cleaned up artwork file produced (as of yet)...

What is there for a guy to do when he's got a Star Castle with some beat down side art but in good condition otherwise? Do you strip and re-paint (or use vinyl as original) leaving white sides? Do you clean the cab up as best as it will clean up and and leave it as-is (for nostalgia)?

...or do you do what I did and bust out the Sharpes?

It's no where near perfect... and I never expected it to be... the colors are off slightly.. but I personally think it looks better than beat down side art. You be the judge... eventually it will be replaced with real stuff (if/when it ever becomes available)...

That is actually quite impressive for just being a Sharpie job. Well done Frizz, well done.

(In political commercial voice-over:)

My name is Jawhn, and I approve of this budget restoration solution.

I personally think it looks great, good enough for a home arcade. I haven't redone my Galaga, because I don't like the repo control panels, none of them are close enough to the original. But I will find myself thinking WWPF (What Would Phet Do), he will completely repaint and replace all the artwork on a cabinet that I would in most cases think is perfectly good. But I have to hand it to him, his work is amazing. That Gorf he just did looks incredible.

Great job on that star castle! There has to be a good way to scan artwork on a cabinet!

Heh, this makes me laugh. My son and I did the same thing on our Star Castle(which Tim I. now has due to me being an idiot!). ;) I thought it looked great, just like yours. :beerchug:

BTW...

Star Castle is FREAKIN' HARD!

Blow up the ship a few times and those sparks get FAST!

My high score is only around 14,000 thus far.

You ain't kiddin. That's what kept me from playing it BITD! Spent too many quarters dying really fast...

Hmm. I need to find some sharpies. I have a lot of work cut out for me...

How fat is that swelling at the bottom? Glad you at least got the game. Since you're missing the artwork (and I imagine it will get made eventually), that might be a good candidate for a cabinet rebuild.

It'll most likely end up being a restore. No one around here to rebuild cheaply, and not willing to pay for shipping of one...

I've only gotten up to 18,100. I think I have the harder rom set. I'm not sure how to tell without pulling the roms out and comparing them to known hard or easy roms. Anyone know by just looking at it?

I didn't know there were different difficulty ROM sets...

My game, the first level has slow sparks... kill the guy and they get medium speed... kill him again and damn they are fast...

wow, nice work and doesn't look bad at all especially when it'll be in a dim lit gameroom

Sounds like yours is more difficult than mine. My game doesn't pickup speed until about the 5th level or so.
