Star Castle Free Play / High Score Save ROM Hack

Hi I installed this awesome upgrade. I am having a problem with it. It resets back to zero like every four or so power downs. The battery is good so I don't know what else to check. I was thinking of soldering the dip switch closed maybe it is bad. I really like the idea of it holding the high because it gives me something to shoot for. So far I got 15000 something but it reset. Anyway if anyone has a suggestion let me know.

I have no record of you buying the "official" Star Castle HSS/FP PCB kit from me.
Did you make your own PCB?

Failure to hold scores could include:
- not having the RESET corruption wiring mod
- bad DS1210 NVRAM controller
- not using low-power 5101 RAM
- flaky DIP6 (as you said)

FWIW, my HSS/FP kit has been holding scores for ~6 months now? Estimated life of the battery should exceed the life of the game. :)

I did make it myself I didn't even know that it was available as a kit. I will go over all the things that you mentioned. Thanks for your help.

I want over everything and it still resets. I have pin 5 going to pin 20 I think this is the reset mod you said to check. I was wondering at this point what value would you recommend for R11. It resets after a few power on and off. The circuit is working though. Let me know what you think.

I made no modification to R11 on the CCPU.

If you have other known-good 5101 RAM, try them.

Make sure your DS1210 has the latest connections ->

5101s:
Pin 20 and 22 of the 5101 RAMs were bent outward so they didn't go into the socket.

DS1210:
Pin 1: VCC (Pin 22) of all 5101 RAMs
Pin 2: CR2032 positive (+) terminal
Pins 3, 4, 7: GND from PCB and battery (-)
Pin 5: R/W signal (Pin 20 of any RAM socket) from PCB
Pin 6: R/W signal (Pin 20) of all 5101 RAMs
Pin 8: +5V from PCB

If you still have issues, then I'd PM DogP for advice.

That's exactly what I have. I checked it out 10 times. I am gonna jump out dip 6 just incase that it's not working. I did a continuity test and it was fine. I also don't see R11 in the parts list. Maybe R111 is the right one.

... inconceivable ... :)
