Star Castle Artwork"HELP"

Just adding another vote of interest for either replacement CPO or side art. Hopefully TOG will start carrying them both!

Hi Rick,

Yeah, I think it's ArcadeJunkie that has the scans & was going to work on the vectorization of the side art? I am REALLY hoping this project goes through, and am willing to contribute funding or anything thing else I can do to make this come to reality.

The Star Castle control panel (at least the Cin. original) is reverse silkscreened on plexi. It's not an overlay like Defender...it's essentially the same deal as a Donkey Kong plexi, only it covers the whole panel. I'd be happy to send mine in so you can clone it.

Please please please, let's make the sideart happen!!! :)

Thanks
Ben

The Side Art Is in the works
any progress on this Mr Junkie?

Just PM'd arcadejunkie to see how things have been going since his last post on the art about 3-4 weeks ago. Hopefully will hear back and see.

Thanks
Ben

This is a project that defenitly will happen for both SideArt and Cpo
I also have a cpoy of the scans so hopefully arcadejunkie can chime in
Hoping to borrow a cpo locally so hopefully I wont need anyone to send in

The art for the cpo is quite simple to prep for screening unlike alot of pieces
this one stays as a raster due to all the halftones and hand drawn line elements
and since it only 2 primary color photoshop can split these pretty easy for the seperations needed for the films. I have a little cleanup work to do and need to get the panel for colormatching and hole Placement.

And yes looks like plex and there were proably other replacement versions or aftermarket repros that were done differnetly

Hi Rick and All,

Just heard from Arcade Junkie on the side art:

<im sending the files on to the next person with my regular computer down im unable to do anything srt related. but yes its moving along and will be ready before to long
taylor >

Not sure what SRT is (assume it's the vectorizing software?), but looks like he's needing someone else to vectorize. Rick, do you have the scans for the side art as well? Is the vectorizing perhaps a project Jeff could do? :) I'd be VERY happy to pitch in some funding money for it or help out in any way.

Also on the control panel, would be happy to mail my plexi to you. It has a few cigarette burns, but is in overall very good shape.

Thanks!
Ben

Yes, it is like Donkey Kong but it is also just like Defender. Defender is not an overlay like the rest of the Williams games. It IS reverse silkscreened on plexi....

I have to say, that it's great that Star Castle art is in the works finally. People have been waiting a long time for this one. Thanks for taking this one on.

Weird, I've had a few Defenders, and although it wasn't a wrap-around CPO like Joust, Robotron, etc, it was a sticker. It was reverse-printed and "plasticy," yes, but used adhesive to stick and wasn't anywhere near the thickness of a plexi like Donkey Kong or Star Castle.

Mine used the repros from Arcade Shop.

There are 2 versions of Star Castle.. A Rock-Ola version, and a Cinematronics version.. Rock-Ola as far as I know was mainly in Canada. The overlay shown with the space ships above the button instead of the 'left' 'right' words above the buttons is the Rock-Ola version.
The Cine version is silk on plexi. The Rock-Ola version is a standard cpo that goes over the wood panel, with nothing on top of it. I have an NOS Rock-Ola one as my SC is that version.

From Bill's great site:

Original Rock-Ola control panel showing the overlay:

A repro Cine version cpo:

(he also has a Cine bezel even though the machine was a Rock-Ola.. think he changed that when he could not find the proper cpo)

Tester, thanks for posting the link to billtronix, he went through the trouble of documenting a cap kit & power supply rebuild. This will be very useful. Thanks again.
