Standard Res (VGA) board compatible with Med Res Monitor?

About to acquire a cabinet with a medium res monitor to put my namco 246 (standard res - vga) system into...

Will this even work? Are they compatible?

Standard Res and Medium Res are not the same as VGA. Will your beta max work in your CD player or toaster?

I'm joking. Medium Res (EGA) will work with medium Res sources.
Standard Res (CGA) will work with standard Res sources.
Guess what VGA works with.. ;)
Hang on, I'll find you a link to some information.

So you're saying there's a chance ;)? After all look what else works with a toaster:

Honestly there is a way to make it happen. I've done so myself before just to see how it would look.

I have a namco 246 with Tekken 4. Used a uVC (Universal Video Converter - VGA into CGA/EGA) and turned the VGA mode on the system. Plugged it into the med res monitor and surprisingly had an image come up.

I didn't take any pictures sadly as I just did a quick test to see. The uVC's are very hard to track down, i'm still looking for one. Mine seems to have failed recently.

Happ sells them for well over $200, with that money you'd be better off tracking down a standard res / vga monitor.

Type: Raster: VGA Resolution
PCB includes Dipswitch to run in standard res (CGA) or high res (VGA) modes.

What if its run in CGA mode? Would that make any difference?

If it runs CGA and VGA, are you sure it doesn't run EGA (medium res) also?
If not and it will do VGA, you can buy a EGA to VGA converter to display medium resolution on VGA displays. I have it working with my APB machine. Looks great because there is not a huge jump unlike doing CGA to VGA.

EDIT: never mind I'm backwards

If it's a tri-mode monitor, it will work. More information is necessary to answer the question. In particular, brand and model of the display would lead to an accurate answer for your question.
