Sound effects are fine but theme music is barely audible. Any hints on where to start troubleshooting? I guess I could swap the volume pots to eliminate that piece but that seems too easy. Any thoughts?

It has been converted to a switching ps.

The Peter Gunn music is played by the Cheap Squeak board, mounted on the side of the cabinet... while the rest is played by the Sound I/O board in the main PCB stack. IIRC, there's a separate pot for the music volume connected to the Cheap Squeak (but if it doesn't give you enough adjustment, one of the amps could be bad or something).

BTW, you can press the button on the Cheap Squeak to test the Peter Gunn song.

Yep it plays the music when I push the button and during the game, it's just super quiet.

I have the pot cranked up as far as it will go. Starting to think it's bad though because if I adjust it, it gets a weird garbled staticky sound. I say weird because it sounds like radio static between stations rather than scratchy static.

Anything specific about this pot or can I just replace with a generic linear of the matching resistance and turn degree?

Actually I think I'll swap the amps to test those since it's easy and free. Hopefully they're the same part.

caps most likely. did it ever sink in these are nearly 40 years old already? what have I done with my life?

I would replace caps on the Dual Amp board as well, especially if you have any excess hum.

Recap the sound board. If it is cranked all the way and still quiet that is not the pot amd a good indication of that
