I have two issues I need help with. Both can be seen in the video.

1) There is a white bar across the bottom of the screen. Admittedly, I haven't adjusted the horizontal width yet (coil needs to be replaced), but I'm wondering if it might be a board issue?

2) The music was working fine, until I inadvertently shorted a ground strap to something I shouldn't have. I heard a pop, and now the music sounds like this. Any idea what might need to be replaced on the cheap squeak board?

On problem 1, that just looks like you need to adjust your monitor's horizontal position and/or width using the pots. I'd definitely try that before anything else.

Your 2nd issue requires a forum visit from MCR REPAIR MAN! (Aka CDJump; try PMing him and asking him to come visit this thread)

sounds like a bad dac on the CSD.
They're kinda hard to find - AD7533JN is the part number. Looks like newark has them.

Is your game sound 100%?

The DAC was the problem with the music. I replaced it and it sounds great now. Now on to the cap kit to see if I can adjust the white bar out.

Thanks for your help.

Nep - not sure how i missed this one.... I have the exact same white line on the bottom of my Spyhunter. I replaced all caps on G07 and Horizontal width coil - adjustments of horiztonal (and vertical) and still no luck in removing it.

Have you managed to get this resolved? If so, how?

If you go into Self test/ grid display - do you have the white line? I dont, which leads me to believe its board related. Was thinking of reseating all chips to see if this solves it, but i doubt it. Let me know what you have there - maybe we can compare notes to track it down. Thanks.

I haven't done anything to resolve the white line. But I did see the exact same white line on another Spy Hunter. That one, yours, and mine lead me to believe it is actually normal. And there is screen burn on my monitor in the white bar area, so I'm pretty sure it has always been there.

My game is apart, so I can't check the self test, but when I do I will report back.

Good to know (that you see it on another monitor besides yours and mine).

Let me know the results of your (full) cap kit. I would also suggest the horizontal width coil to see if that combination resolves it. Also, please let me know if HFREQ adjustment brings that white line to the top - thats what happens with mine. I can actually have half bar bottom / half white bar top - but prefer to leave it at bottom as it seems the less obtrusive approach.

Yeah, i am ruling out the monitor as the cause - otherwise, in my self test the line would be there but its not.

I would like to get rid of it - its just nagging. I will reseat all chips and see if it changes (not looking forward to that), and if not, considering getting a board to see if it changes. Will let you know.

mine has a white line above and below the game play screen. but it is using one of those eygo aftermarket chassis.
it looks good though. looks like the lines are supposed to be there

I just got in from trying every which way to the moon in adjusting it out (on the G07) (needed to make other adjustments, so figured i would give it another try). Wont go away - Its not the monitor - its def. the boards.

This weekend i will spend some more time researching the boards.

By the way - for vertical positioning - do you guys have black space (maybe an inch or two) on the sides? I left it like that - the tighter look seems right- stretching vertical to the ends makes everything look fat -- is that how you have yours set?

hor. width cap on the monitor. Not a pcb problem exactly, just the mcr pcbset design. Either adjust the width coil and hor pos until it goes away, or change the width cap and adjust the coil and position until it goes away.

CDJump,

Ok - a fellow klov'r offered a main PCB for a temp check - most likely as you say, that wont solve it, but its worth a try.

As you say - most likely the G07 adjustment will help resolve it. Before i replace width caps (which sounds experimental) - i want to make sure i exhausted the methods i have access to now -

Does it sound like i did the best i could with these three components before i move onto width caps? Or is there something more i can do?

-- Coil. It has a slug in the center (small grey plastic like slug). I adjust that to the left, which results in being all the way out of the coil housing - no change to pic. I adjust it right - gets tight in the housing - no change to pic. Am i missing something? Is that slug supposed to tighten the coil which leads to a tighter pic (which is not my goal - i need a wider from top to bottom pic).

-- I next try HORIZ FREQ. This just moves the white bar from bottom of screen to top...

-- HORIZ CENT - there are three positions on the G07 - left middle and right. I put that sheath / connector to either left or center, doesnt seem to affect the horiz height.

So, am i missing anything or are my next steps to just follow the Bob Roberts page on width caps and get something makes it larger from top to bottom?

I think all Spy Hunters have the white line at the bottom of the screen....I've seen quite a few that do. Mine had it, but I was able to adjust it out view, by fiddling with the monitor.

Now that you mention it so did mine and I was able to adjust it out just as you did.

Its good news that i can potentially adjust it out - but again, i've tried Horiz freq / width coil (new one) and even started messing with the jumpers and it wont leave!

Guess i will go back to it and try again. Maybe a better look at the Horizontal width coil - maybe its locked on or something.

Happy to report the Bob Roberts horizontal cap kit resolved this - removed the C515 534k cap and replaced with a 334k - white line is gone (with slight adjustment of HFREQ). Picture looks greta now. Thanks!
