Okay, so I got one of these:

WGF1979-XDSS40K
http://www.wellsgardner.com/products/details.asp?iCat=1&iSubCat=5

Specs here: http://www.wellsgardner.com/pdf/Spec/LCD_19in_Standard_Specs.pdf

And it syncs up fine and looks great with Defender but I can't get it to sync with Spy Hunter, giving the OUT OF RANGE error.

Is there a way to get the Spy to sync up like the Defender? I see the wiring for the sync for both are different (a 3 wire/pin molex for the Spy and the Defender has just two wires that are on the same molex as the GR, B, R and G).

I've tried switching the sync wires, all possible combos I think, on the 10 pin connector on the monitor to no avail.

How to do this?

TIA!

EDIT: After much poking around here, it seems that LCD monitors are virtually impossible to get to sync in MCR games? F'ing really?!?

Yep. Monitors that have auto-ranging circuitry have major issues with MCR games. I have a 13" tube monitor with a self-sync circuit on my test bench and it does the same thing on MCR's...

Well, at least you know now why we don't recommend buying LCD's for classic arcades...

Thought that was always just a purist thing, wanting the CRT in there, etc. I don't care, as long as it's not a constant headache with the monitor going out - this purchase was designed to avoid those hassles.

Looks like just MCRs tend to have the problems, tho. Lucky me. :(

I for one have never understood why people have a tendency to believe LCD monitors will outlast a CRT monitor.
Let me just say....with the experience I have had with both in a commercial setting.... "they are wrong".

Had that Galaga not long ago that had a brand new CRT monitor in it - I KNEW I should have ripped that out of there! :(

You definitely want to go with a classic monitor in Spy Hunter.

Putting an LCD in there is sacrilege.

But even ignoring that, even the later tube monitors didn't work well in MCR games. I had a VisionPro in one and hated it; Spy Hunter just gave it heartburn whereas it's perfect with a G07.

Save for a select few, LCD monitors won't work in mcr.

Looks like I'll be going with a rebuilt G07 with a swapped in the tube.
