Ok..So the spy hunter has been acting up lately. When it boots it will just go to a garbled screen, after a while the game will load, but will reset quickly..I checked the +5 on the power suuply and it was a little low. I got it to about 5.05 and then checked the voltage across the board and it was about 3.6..I got the +5 on the PS up as far as it would go..5.44 and was still only getting about 4.04 across the board, so I'm looking at a pretty consistant drop of about 1.4 from the PS to the boards.. So where to go from here? I figure there is no need to rebuild the power supply as it can get up to 5.4 and the issue seems to be in the boards. Is this a simple case of replacing all the cables and connectors? Any thoughts?

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but when I tried turning it on this morning, I couldn't get the game to boot at all...wouldn't get any neck glow either..I pulled the PS and the fuse was busted, after replacing it, it would continue to give me the same issues it has been.

I just fixed something similar to this on mine. My symptoms were the same (voltage drops from the PS through the boards) but I was getting about 4.4v on the SSIO board when I measured it and PS was pumping out about 5.3. I'd just get glitchy graphics behavior on mine because it was starving the boards for power.

I re-pinned and used deoxit on the connector that plugs onto the board stack, re-pinned and used deoxit on the 2 plugs that went from the wiring harness to the linear power board.

Presto! Game is now PERFECT with almost no loss at all from the PS through the game boards.

YMMV -- CDJump mentioned that sometimes you have to do the linear power board rebuild kit from Bob to replace the connectors on the linear board that mate with the connectors on the wiring harness. That wasn't necessary for me though.

Thanks! I used some de-oxit on the pins on the connector from the PS to the main board. Gave me about 4.9 +5vdc across the board now. It seems to be enough to run the game. I still have to have the +5v pot set to the max (~5.44) so there is still a drop in there, but at least the game is playable now..Just need to figure out where that drop of .55 is coming from.

From 3.6 to 4.9 with deoxit -- wow!

Don't stop there -- repin those connectors.

yeah, I think that is the next step...Does anyone know of anybody that might sell the connectors already pinned? I've never done it before so I'm a little unsure about how effectively I will be able to do it..That and the time it will take to do it is few and far between with me..

I'm not sure what you're asking. The wires from your wiring harness need to be crimped into those pins and then inserted into the connectors.

If you haven't done the 20-pin connector that plugs into the boardstack you should do that one too. (Replace and deoxit). If you're already running with replacement MCR interconnect cables then your remaining voltage drop is likely there.

I should have been more clear. Does anyone sell the wiring harness with everything already done so all you would have to do is take out the old wiring harness from both sides and pop in the new one..

No, not that I'm aware of.

Your best bet may be to take the entire wiring harness out and give it to someone to repin those 3 connectors or mail it to someone to repin those 3 connectors for you. It's not very difficult, it's just a little time consuming...
