Spy Hunter - Steering wheel grommets wanted - Springs go through them

Looking for the little plastic steering wheel grommets that the steering wheel springs go
through. Anyone have these?

You can buy nylon bushings that fit at Ace Hardware in the section with the metal drawers. However, I recently did this and the springs seem to catch on them, and then release, as I'm turning the wheel, causing loud spring vibration which is annoying. I'm thinking about removing them and welding in some reinforcing sheet metal so I don't have to have bushings in there.

If anyone has a suggestion on preventing the vibration sound please let me know. I'd rather not have to go to the trouble to pull the wheel, cut some metal, and weld it in if there is a simpler solution.

What I got from Ace is almost exactly like those. I think my problem must be the end of the spring catching in the slits which also would happen with those. I haven't looked really closely to verify. Could also be that the deformation in the metal causes the bushing to not be perfectly round - a hump where the metal is worn - and when it pops out of the hump I get the loud spring vibration.

Heyco is the company that makes the originals. I got the part numbers off mine when I was restoring my SH and got a sample from the company. Here's the URL: http://www.heyco.com/products/sec_04/4-25.html

Just request a catalog / sample request.

Old thread, does anyone know where to get these nylon bushings/grommets? The link above goes to nothing on Heyco's website.
