Spy Hunter steering pot calibration issue, forgets setting after day or two.
I've got a near mint Spy Hunter upright. Picked it up a few years back from a guy who bought it out of an arcade back in 1984-85. Here is what has been done since it was new:
Switcher was installed for the +5. Original MCR ps is there, original battery removed and I installed a cordless phone battery. Holds high scores well. Original owner installed a switch on the front of the game, it only turns off the monitor.. So for years the pcbs were powered on, LEDs on pcbs have burnt out. Since owning it, I power the game on and off using a remote controlled ps that shuts the complete game down. A nos wells monitor has been installed.
Here is the issue I'm having, it wasn't much of a problem in the beginning but now its become almost a daily issue. Every time I fire up the game the steering pot needs to be calibrated. It pulls to the right, but can be fixed via the calibration menu. Then all is good.
Turn the game off, fire it up a day or two later, then I need to calibrate it again.. What gives? High scores usually are backed up, but here and there they do erase.. But the pot issue still happens even when the scores are holding. Voltages are spot on. Should the pot be replaced, or is this an issue with the battery or suitcase transformer at base of cab? All pots are original, and transformer has never been touched.. I may have replaced a fuse holder, but don't remember.
Thanks for any guidance on this one.. It's my 3 year olds favorite game and he knows how to turn it on, credit it, and play.. So when I'm not around and the pot needs calibration, he's shit outa luck
I also keep a weight on the gas pedal so he can play the game using a bar stool. Not sure if that's an issue. Gas pedal mech has been removed and pot cleaned in the past..
