Spy Hunter / Spy Hunter II Peter Gunn interchangeable??

In listening to Spy Hunter IIs Peter Gunn theme on TNT amusements video of it on youtube, I suddenly want to try swapping that board with my original Spy Hunter.

I haven't checked schematics yet, however the pins look to be identical on the 2 music boards, cheap squeak and sounds good. Will this work?? Has anybody tried it?

I mean the sequel sucked so bad, but the music may be the only cool thing from it and would offer a change of atmosphere for my original awesome Spy Hunter!! It's basically the same song, just with lower pitch and speed...

Thanks!

Sounds Good is basically just a Cheap Squeak Deluxe with bigger ROMs.
The real question is whether the triggers that SH and SHII send to their aux music boards are the same.

schematics for sh2 are on arcarc.xmission.com.
From looking at them, it looks like there's both a turbo cheap squeak, and a sounds good.
Still, like Mark said, even if you made an adapter to adapt one to the other, it still boils down to whether or not the software sends the same commands across games.

Sweet, the schematics line up exactly! There's a chance that it still won't work properly, but as exact as they look, why wouldn't they? I'm very surprised that they would have kept it the same after 4 years, as I don't think most games had separate sound and music boards in the later 80s, the main processors were faster and could have been able to process it all together...

I used to play around with a cheap squeak deluxe a long time ago, and the input is not too complicated. I had it wired up to my car stereo with a switch in the front of the car, so I could start the music, and it was as simple as supplying either a ground or a 5v wire to one of the data inputs that would normally come from the main board. One was start the short beginning tune, one was the death tune and another was the continuous play signal. I had wanted to make it start playing the long tune when I turned the ignition on and play the death tune when turning the car off, but I never made it that far... I could listen to it for hours on road trips though, lol

It doesn't matter what goes on on the sounds good only that the couple of signals that the mainboard send it are the same as I explained above, and I believe they are, the inputs/outputs are labeled basically the same thing from one to the other. I mean the connectors J1/J2/J3...

Now I just need to get my hands on one. Ebay has one but he wants $125 for it, anybody know of a cheaper one?

Is it just ROMs that need to be burned? Steph from HobbyROMs might be able to burn them for you.

There should be 4 ROMs, but possibly only 2 which I have from the seller that burned them from me, but wasn't sure if they are correct/complete, and he also mentioned a pal/gal which may not be burnable? I will ask Steph, Thanks!
