I got a person pretty far away with a Spy Hunter and she says it has a speaker buzz once they start a game. All the sounds work but they just get this buzz along with it. Would this be a sound chip issue? I seen something about the board having a sound issue. I read this somewhere but cant remember exactly what part it said was the source and I think it might have been for missing sounds anyway.

Speaker buzz can be the result of a switcher power supply being installed... or bad filter caps... or a linear power supply needing rebuilt... or the sound board needing recapped.

...or the dual power amp board.....or...or...or...:)

MCR hardware is kinda "buzzy" to begin with.

I got a buzz on a galaga I put a switcher on... Robbed the 120V from the monitor power line, was that a bad idea? Anyway to prevent the buzz with a retrofit switcher?

Dunno if this would make a difference as far as the power supply being an issue but the game worked and sounded fine for a couple months until just last week.

How positive are you about that?

And does it have a switcher in it?

first, have her unplug the cheap squeak deluxe and see if it goes away. If it doesn't, unplug the 9 or 10 pin connector from the ssio that supplies the sound out (middle connector on the top board). If its still buzzing with those unplugged, its either the amp causing it, or something in the power supply, like the 2 big caps in the power brick.
If its in the cabinet, and not either of the boards, i'd start by reflowing all the solder joints on the amp board. They're notorious for cracked solder joints - same for the cheap squeak deluxe header pins.

That's actually not a good idea. The monitor voltage runs through an isolation transformer....most of these transformers are (only) rated at 1 amp....the monitor pulls a large portion of that amperage. Now you've added the power supply also pulling on this power rail. It can add undo stress to the transformer.
