Guys,

I have a sit down Spy Hunter I have to get going for my museum. It has two issues:

1) Sound channels 3 and 6 are dead. All the socketed chips on the super sound board are known good. Where should I start?

2) The sprites are messed up. There are duplicates of each sprite showing up about 3 or 4 inches to the right of where they are supposed be. Any ideas?

Thanks,
John

off the top of my head on the sound - check all the resistors in the output section, they tend to burn up and make sounds go missing. Without digging back through the schems, i can't remember how the output sound are routed exactly, but iirc they run through a couple of lm3900's - it could be one of those dead as well.
On the graphics glitches- thats most likely a bad 93419 or 93422 (the .4" wide one, i forget which is which), or a bad socket, or something in the associated circuitry. You can try to clean and reseat the rams and see if that fixes it.

Although i doubt this is your problem, its a good idea to replace the ribbon cables if you haven't already.

also, check the connections on your dual amp board and make sure they're good, and check your voltages too. as c has told me and i've seen on my satan's hollow, it is not uncommon for you to have a .2-.4 volt drop from the power supply to the roms on the board.

Got it Fixed!

Thanks for the help guys. cdjump - your suggestion of replacing the ribbon cables did fix the sprite problem...thanks!

For the record, I fixed channel 3 by replacing the 4016 at D7. Replacing the 4016 at D9 didn't fix channel 6, though. It was the inverter 7407 at C6 that fixed channel 6. For some reason there was a 7417 but the schematic called for a 7407. I am guessing these are compatible chips with some minor difference in specs...but I'm too lazy to look them up in the TTL guide. Oh well, who cares...it works now!

Now I just need to get all the buttons working well, tune up the controls, and put her in place! Thanks again!
