Lets assume you've done the proper prep work and that is really key....but assuming that..
The key if your doing this shit yourself is to have a lot of clamps and take your time lining up the art on top or bottom....it really depends on the art...if I have something that is straight lines etc on bottom I might choose to use that as a guide to get the bottom clamped down and then work my way from the top..or vice versa....but you can do dry method youself..just have to make sure you have it secured...lined up...and most importantly work slow and deliberate..don't rush..you should be working with maybe and inch of art at a time as you work back and forth..pushing the air towards the open end as you go down...if you do this you won't have to use the wet method....that having been said if you prep your surface with something that will repels water you can use this method..but you better make sure you have several coats on the surface or you'll end up with some swelling anyway...I've done both methods and its all prep work and taking your time that is key to getting the desired result.
Also keep in mind all repro art..vinyl is not the same..know what your working with in terms of thickness...how opaque is the vinyl...too..determines color of prime you use as base if needed too.
