So I noticed my spy hunter wasn't booting today. Lights came on in the marquee and the coin door lights work, but no neck glow or anything else. I go and checked the fuses and the one on the power supply is blown. I've replaced it twice and it blows every time. I'm thinking of swapping the PS from my tron when I get home tonight just to verify that the issue is isolated in the PS its self. Does that sound about right to anyone else? I figure maybe a full rebuild for the PS is in order. Is that overkill? Is there a usual cuplrit I should check/replace first before redoing the entire thing?

if it's the power supply board, then yeah, it's probably a bad transistor in there somewhere. if it's never been rebuilt before then you're definitely due. power supply rebuilds are kind of fun. :D

I unfortunately have no experience with that classic Midway stuff, haven't run into any, but if you match up the numbers with a kit on Bob Roberts that's probably all you'll need.

Ironically enough I have a rebuild kit sitting around. I was thinking of rebuilding it once and then noticed that a sticker on there said it was rebuilt in 06...I guess after 6-7 it could go bad?

under household use, I don't think it should. but then again like I said, I don't know anything about those old Midway units. I also don't want to make any generalizations about the quality of the hardware cause I honestly don't know from experience.

unless there were bunk parts or it somehow wasn't done right, I don't know.

Ok, I swapped out the PS from my tron into Spy Hunter and it works fine, so whatever is causing the issue is definately in the PS..I tried starting the rebuild and have already run into a snag, I can't get the female connector to come off. I've desoldered the crap out of it, and one or two of the pads has even started to come up. I've even tried to very gentling lifting it up with a jewlery flat head with little succcess..Any suggestions here?
