Spy Hunter Pcb...coins up with 9 credits sometimes? batteries?

Ok so If I turn the game on and off a couple of times in succession...the game will coin up with 9 credits even if I don't coin up or have credits left from playing last time and turned off game...Are there batteries on the pcb board? I couldn't find any...I know the game remembers high score and if there are credits left does a eprom chip save these settings without a battery?

If the NiCd battery is still on the linear power board then you need to get it off, pronto. It will leak and damage the board given enough time.

can someone snap a picture to show me where I am looking for this battery...thanks!

looked at picture...mine is different is a long white cylinder and has no wire leads from it says 8606 japan 17-97300 on it...not sure what that means

it means cut it off there asap. Thats the original battery (or one that was put on in 86).

ok...looks clean...but I dont want to take a chance...so If I cut this off...the only thing happens is it will not remember high scores and settings? anyone make a replacement kit for this? Thanks!

bob roberts sells a lithium conversion kit, or you can use a 3.6v cordless phone battery.

ok...cool...thanks for the info...I appreciate the help!

There's a number of threads here that go through the pros and cons of each of the methods.

I personally favor the cordless phone battery mounted off board, hooked up by wires soldered to the place where the original was. Put the battery in a baggie for extra insurance and then replace it every couple of years and you should be golden.

If you can, put the battery into the game fully charged -- I keep a cordless phone around just for this purpose. I got 3 trouble free years out of my last one before I chickened out and replaced it. You can even hot-swap them w/o losing your scores as long as the game is turned on when you do the swap.

The only downside is that if you disconnect your boardset from the power supply then you lose your high scores.

ok think I might try the cordless phone battery...anyone can give me the brand and type they have used for this? Thanks!

Brand doesn't really matter. Any 3.6v NiCd cordless phone battery will do. Radio Shack, Wal Mart, Fry's is your friend.

Like I said, I picked up ones that I could fully charge in an old cordless phone I had laying around so it was topped off when put in the game. But you don't have to do that.

ok cool...does the mAh matter I see some that are 300 to 900...just don't want to harm anything! Thanks!
