Got a Spy Hunter a while back and finally got some time to sit down and work on it.

When given to me I was told it needed a power supply and so today I replaced it. Results were a flashing cheap Squeak LED, no Picture though you can hear the TV when power is on, Speakers hum but no sound, and get no lights on steering wheel. I am getting 5 and 12V

I purchased the Manual but it doesent have any diagnostics part, basically parts list and schematics. I consider myself a newbie to Arcade repair and have no clue where to start next.

If someone is willing or know someone who would be I would be happy to ship my boards to them to test if they are capable of doing so to give me an idea of what is bad and what isnt.

Please help! Would like to play this game again!

Wow! You joined 5 years ago and this is your first post!

What kind of power supply do you have in it? Do you have the original power brick and the linear power supply or did you add a switching power supply?

How do the board inter-connect cables look????
they cause alot of problems, may need to just replace them

Welcome to the site!!

I will put them into my machine if you feel like sending them to Michigan, if nothing closer comes along.

Even if the voltages from the PS check good, the MCR boards are touchy little things in my experience. A couple of months ago I was working on a Tron that was nothing but a giant headache... PS checked good, boards were known good because I checked them in my Tron. After a PS rebuild kit, the thing still wouldn't work... but I knew it had to be PS related, as a last ditch effort we got a switching PS adapter, and she fired right up.

If you can locate a local member with a Spy Hunter, check the boards in their machine... you might be surprised. Either way, it can save you a giant headache. I have no idea what was wrong with the original PS in that Tron... new connectors, a full rebuild, good voltages, etc etc... thing just refused to work with it's original power supply.

(for anyone out there that's upset about the switcher in Tron, feel free to buy the machine... the original PS board is still in there IIRC)

Check tht dipswitches on the SSIO PCB. The LED should not be lit, unless the game is in a diagnostic mode, via the dipswitches. You can also disconnect the SSIO PCB from the the three board stack, I often do this when I am troubleshooting a MCR stack. The game will still boot up, but the picture is upside down, no sound and no controls.

Also, just because you have 5VDC and 12VDC on the power supply....doesn't mean you're out of the woods....you need to check the reset circuit (which, also originates on the power supply board.
